Cleaned Miele Washer W1903 drain filter, now it leaks!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Miele

The drain hose on this model is not meant to be removed, it needs to be inserted into the door holder and left there, to drain water from this machine through the hose you need to:

Swing Open Drain Trap Door
Place bowl under drain hose
Turn the Bottle Trap 2 / 3 times to Release pressure (Do Not Remove Fully)
Let Water Drain
Repeat if necessary

Then remove the trap fully to clean

The water to the drain hose drains through the rubber seal of the drain trap, opening the trap aligns a hole to the drain hose where the water drains out of, there is no stopper arrangement on the drain tube hose, closing the trap screw fully closes the water outlet to the drain!!

It looks like as Miele Tech have said that the rubber seal around the drain trap has not been inserted correctly so the drain hole is in the right place - or the seal is now perished and is leaking!!

Hope this helps, Mike

I just talked to Miele tech support and they are sending a new drain cap, if that does not fix the problem, I will break down and shell out $160. for a service call. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.

We had a Miele with that type of filter.

There's basically a small slot in the threaded area where the filter screws in. When you partially loosen the cap, the water flows out through the small hose attached.

You can control the water flow by using the filter cap like a tap i.e. if you tighten it the flow slows/stops.

Are you entirely sure that the cap's screwed in properly ? Is there anything stuck between the cap and the machine like debris etc?

Clean the threads carefully with a dish sponge and some warm water. It could just be some caked-on detergent that you haven't spotted.

Soak the filter cap in some tap hot water too to make sure it's not stuck with some dried on powder.

Look at the threads carefully and make sure they're not damaged too.

The filter should be screwed in pretty firmly too, don't be afraid to hand tighten it fairly securely.

Thanks mrx, Believe me when I say I tried to make sure it was clean. I vacuumed it with a shop vac, I cleaned the threads on the cabinet and on the cap with a toothbrush, then dried both with clean towels. I made sure that I did not cross thread the cap by turning counter clockwise til it clicked, then clockwise til it was tight. The slots on the cap were at 1:00 and 7:00. I did try an experiment yesterday, I temporily taped the holes that allow drainage into the spigot, just to see if that worked. I tightend the cap, put 2 cups of water in the machine and it did not leak.I removed the tape immediately. So hopefully, the fault is in the seal of the cap and the new cap will fix it, but I'm not sure!!!I really not want a service call for a leaking spigot, seems so simple.

Yeah, it seems to be one of those simple things that if it's not 'just so' it won't work.

It is not just the threads that need to be clean. You need to make sure there is no obstruction preventing the filter itself from locating correctly. I have once seen a bra wire stuck in a filter housing and the owner of the machine ignored it, thinking it was part of the machine.

The new plug arrived from Miele as promised. I will update next week when I go back to my cabin with the Miele washer.Hope it solves my problem.

Why is the rinse-rinse hold light is flashing on my Miele w

Finally got my machine to stop leaking out the drain spigot by installing a new cap. I tried to run a test cycle, the machine filled with water, then the rinse/rinse hold light started flashing(flashes for about 5-6 seconds on then stops for 5-6 seconds etc. Then flashes again). It did not spin. Does anyone know what is wrong now?

Miele

Glad to hear you got the new part sorted!!

What programme did you select, Rinse & Spin??

Is the spin speed selector on a spin speed setting ie 1200rpm or Without Final Spin??

Can you turn the programmer to spin and set the spin speed to 1200rpm, does it drain and spin okay??

Here is a link to your instruction manual, hope this helps!!

After the rinse/rinse hold light started flashing I turned the dial to spin(from cottons 60), it did not spin, so I turned the dial to drain, it did drain no problem and the little light went to "END". I did try 600 and 900 speed setting and the light kept flashing so I gave up. I have the owners manual and followed the instructions for my test run, maybe I did something wrong, I'm getting very frustrated trying to get this thing to work. Prior to this light blinking issue, it ran one cycle before the drain lines clogged solid! I cleaned the lines and it leaked out the spigot not the threads of the cap, now it is not leaking but I have a flashing light and it does not spin! I feel like I'm very close to getting it to work, but it's always one more thing. And yes, it did spin before the drain line clogged! And I can spin it with my hands when it is off, no grinding noise. I shut it off and unplugged it and tried a second time, same results.
