I am trying to figure out the best way to clean grime off of a washer. The main problem I have is the top of the agitator and wash tub where the top water level sits. I got the agitator clean with some simple green, a rag, and some elbow grease. The tub however is stainless and the grime seems baked in somehow haha. Any suggestions? Also on washers that are all caked up with detergent scum, what do you use to cut through that, a wet rag just creates a slimy mess!

Is it a solid tub? Try some Bon Ami scouring powder, and 409,try not to get it in the bottom of the tub so it will come in contact with the pump and seals. It should clean it right up.Use a damp sponge! Not alot of powder!! Put an old cloth in the tub to catch any residue. Thanks Bobby

Bon Ami

Hi! Its a real fine scouring powder, but no additives like comet.Supermarket should have it or the dollar store.Sometimes you can get it in a bar like soap, good for cleaning windows, its not coarse, your welcome Bobby

you could also try

running a cycle, maybe with a 20 min soak (no clothes) with hot water and some phosphate detergent, or add STPP, to soften and loosen. See how much comes off first before scrubbing! if its on the inside tub, then it's on the outer tub as well. The phosphate will help to break it loose from both inner and out tubs, and pump, hose drain, ect
