I remember

When my Mom and I used to go to the Laundromat in Buzzard's Bay. They had Westy's and Rollermatics. The Rollermatics had windows in the lids. The Westy's used to slosh alot during the wash and splash suds onto the windowss of the front door.

I love it, makes me want to buy the whole building, restore all the machines and the store and have everyone in applianceville over to bring their favorite machines and let the club have its own window front! Everyone here would get a key!

Sadly Laundromats, Laundries and Dry Cleaners

Are closing in numbers, and there is lots of equipment out there, both old,new and vintage, totally surplus to requirements.

Cheap small portable washing machines have lead persons where possible to do their wash at home. This along with other factors have driven down the market, while on the flip side costs of owning and running a laundry business continue to grow.

Large apartment buildings, school dorms and other multi-family residences are installing laundry rooms as well.

You cannot do laundry without water, electic power, and energy to heat water, along with labour. Finally factor in costs of the space, and you've got a not to pretty picture.

At some point it starts to cost more to open the doors than what one is taking in from the business. Remember machines sitting empty, and or employees standing around idle represent an ongoing cost, while they are not bringing in revenue.

Such a sad picture, it looks like an apocalypes.
All the dents and scrapes on the furniture and washers, where did everyone go? Even the hose on the GE is peeking over to see what happened.

With the prices of NEW FL washers and their matching dryers-I would LOVE to use that laundromat-those COOL SQ washers!!!An apartment house laundramat where I lived had SQ washers like those in the early 70's.
