Collectors, esp. antique collectors
I usually ask them what their antiques do other than sit there. I make sure to tell them that the whatever looks nice and all, but what does it do now? I feel that things need a cord and plug, a crank or some other way to put them into action. John has a friend who has a way of asking me about the appliances that borders on insulting. Maybe it's just that I find my appliances so much more interesting than I do him. Maybe I'll tell him that next time. In fact, maybe that will be my response to all who ask why I like appliances; they're more interesting than people. As Harry Truman said, If you want a true friend in Washington, get a dog. I would add, maybe an appliance, too.
