Coffee grounds shouldn't be a problem.for folks living with a septic system-NO PAPER-only the potty roll.Yes,even if it gross -put the paper in the TRASH to be handled by the Baker trash compactor at the dump.Neighbors paper waste-they have trash pickup--goes into the Leach RL trash truck-"Nothing Packs like a LEACH!NOTHING!"so no paper worries there.Since my housing district is out of town-we are on septic tanks-even with a sewage system-would be reluctant to throw paper waste in the disposer or toilet-they are not waste baskets.shredded paper can cause clogs further down the lines.the sewer company may not be happy about that.sometimes the neighbor's trash is picked up by a Heil(never seen that one in the neighborhood)or a PaK-Mor.Any of those can handle the paper BETTER than a disposer or sewer system.

Coffee Grounds in a Disposer?

What a ridiculous topic, Kelly and a few others got it right when he said that coffee grounds are already so fine and have absorbed all the water they are going to absorb, so they CAN be rinsed down ANY drain in the house disposer or not.

Garbage Disposers are designed to grind and dispose of almost all food waste, Barry, Kelly and Wes are right on the money about this.

Septic tanks love garbage disposers and other human waste, this is what makes them work. They do not like excessive water flow, bleach, salt from water softeners, and possibility other chemicals that are not part of a normal waste water stream.

We've lived in our home for 14 years, and the current ISE disposer was installed when the kitchen was remodeled sometime in either the late 1960's or early 1970's by the previous owners.  I can't speak for them, but we've been putting coffee grounds and other such items down it since living here.  Our dw also drains into the disposer and I'm sure this also helps move things further along to the sewer main.

Waste Disposer

All down to the pluming in the house, In my last home we had a number of bends in the pipe work from the sink to the outside drain and the pipes sometimes blocked with rice or paster but never any problems with coffee, in the current house the pipes are one str8 run and have never had any issues with any waste
