Youre not stupid,that is the gasket off the top bowl,this is what seals it to the pot.

I have two coffeemasters in perfect condition, but the seals are shot on both of them. Let us know how good these replacement seals are when you get yours installed. If they are good, I'll buy two.

The problem with my first C-30 was that the seal hardened up and split in two.

The second seal works, but imparts a serious rubber flavor to the coffee.

But when working properly these machines do offer some of the best coffee you'll ever have.

I have heard that others have tried to recreate the seal for coffeemasters before, but only had limited success.

I purchased one

When I get it I'll let you know how it works. I can use mine if I soak the upper pot in very hot water for a few minutes, that softens up the gasket. The heat of brewing keeps it soft. I have tried glycerine, but to no avail, maybe I didn't use enough. I hope the new one doesn't have any taste issues.

I know the remedy is to buy a C-50, which doesn't use a rubber seal. But I really like the condition my C-30's are in.

C50...

Actually the C50 does use a rubber gasket, it's just different. It's more like a giant rubber O-ring. Locking the handles puts pressure on the O-ring and seals. It is a better design, but it still utilizes a rubber seal.

Thanks for the correction about the rubber seal on the C-50.
If these new replacement seals work, there will be tons of Coffeemaster owners all over the world rejoicing, and the Coffeemasters will carry on for another 50 years!

So far So good

I got the gasket today. It is nice and soft, my old one was very hard. I had to break the old one to get out the "washer" which is actually cup shaped, about 1/4" deep. The old gasket was also reinforced by a metal band embedded within the gasket. The washer is on the right and is threaded to screw onto the spout shaped piece that sticks down into the water. Seller recommends a light coating of cooking oil.

Here is the upper pot, assembled. I tried it with plain water then since that worked OK, I brewed a full pot of coffee. So it does fit and does work. Since it was a reproduction of an obsolete part, I did not mind paying the price. I think it is great someone took the trouble to make it.

Rubber Taste

Before using rubber candy molds its recommended to boil them first in washing soda to remove the "rubber" taste. Perhaps it would work for the gasket.

That's it. I'm gonna buy one of these myself. I miss the taste of coffee from my coffeemaster!

And thanks for the tip on removing the rubber taste from my old seal. I'll give that a try!

I have a NOS Sunbeam gasket that a friend sent me for my glass-top Coffeemaster but haven't had the nerve to try putting it on yet. Those OEM parts are so scarce!

I bought one of these Ebay gaskets as well but haven't had the time to fiddle with it yet. If it works, I'll get a couple more for the other C-masters I have.

It'll be very interesting to see if this holds up

under use. That original gasket does have SS teeth embedded into to which are there to stiffen and push the seal into contact with the pot rim. Ofcourse newer rubber can be molded to be harder or softer than it was in the 1950's so this may be a bang up solution without the need for the SS teeth.
Its a really complex gasket when you take it apart.

CoffeeMaster C-20

My Sunbeam Coffeemaster was the older style without a handle on the drip bowl. It works flawlessly and has just a small hard gray rubber seal. It came with a package of filters. My aunt Toody had one and cut up old dishtowels for the filter. It takes about 8 minutes to brew. It rumbles roars and boils, shaking like Jell-O as the water comes up through the filter into the top and then bubble vigorously. Slowly it seeps back into the serving vessel

Three piece filter

The model C20 has a spring that holds the filter in place. In some models the filer stem screws onto a threaded hub in the bottom of the pot holding it all together.

I ordered one of these the other day from Ebay. Other than shot seals, my C30 Coffeemasters are in mint condition. We can't wait for it to arrive!

I love that rumble, shake and boil sound. It sounds like a volcano! We start the pot, go back to bed for a few minutes and when we hear the sounds the Coffeemaster makes we know coffee is ready. We can even hear the "SNAP!" noise the switch makes when it moves from Hi to Lo.

Back in the day when these were new, I imagine that the consumer didn't have the quality of coffee we do today. I imagine if they did we'd still be seeing more vacuum pots out there today.

I love my C-master coffee!!

Whirlcool you're probably right about the coffee except that my Mom always said she had the best cup of coffee right after WWII and the coffee came from Brazil. She always believed Brazillian coffee was the best.
I have not had the opportunity to drink it though, anyone here drink Brazillian?

Why not make an adapter?

Designers create face seal adapters all the time.
Cut a 300cres, teflon or rulon ring the shape of the old molded gasket seal. Then cut oring lands into it for a pair of standard sized orings on the sealing faces?

Is there something peculiar about the seal geometry that would negate this sort of design?

We received our new seal in the mail today. It doesn't look like an easy job to remove the old one. The instructions indicated that it would be best to take it to a small appliance repair center for installation. I could just see that. They wouldn't know what to do with it.
It gives alternate instructions to use an "nylon strap wrench" to remove the old filter with a dowel. What is a "nylon strap wrench?" Where do I obtain one of these?
Has anyone installed one of these yet? How hard was it?

I figured it out. I put the top half in the dishwasher on sanitize when we went to bed. In the morning the top was still somewhat warm. I gave the old seal a sudden twist, and off it came! The center washer was pretty easy to put in as the new gasket is pretty pliable.
Tested it out! It works perfectly!
