Tide has introduced a Cold Water formula. I logged on to their web site for a free sample. It is available in liquid and powder form and in Glacier or Fresh Scent. I hope those are not too nauseating scents.

Tide has claimed to have a formula that removes greasy stains in cold water. Others have tried, but as far as I know, Tide has never had a detergent specifically for cold water usage.

Tide Coldwater

Looks to me like the money you save in energy costs would be eaten up by the higher cost of the cold water formula, after pricing at my local supermarket today. Anyone remember Cold Power or ColdWater All???? And I just don't think I would be satisfied washing my white clothes and bed linens in cold water. This may be because I grew up in a "hottest water possible" for the washing machine, and my Mother cringed at the thought of turning off the hot water, as instruced on the Cold Power box in the sixties. She was just sure she would "ruin" her UniMatic....it only lasted 16 yrs :) of heavy, daily use...

Cold Water Washing

Most people in australia wash in cold, in fact 99% of all our laundry products are formulated to wash in cold.

I do whites and towels with a cold water detergent, IE Cold Power, Bio Z, Dynamo, Radiant and an oxygen laundry additve/disinfectant.

True our cold water temp is prob 20deg C vs your 3 or 4deg C in winter but with ATC keeping things at 24deg C you issues washing in cold are probably more of a mindset than a reality.

My whites glow, shirts have no grimey collars and my towels are always soft fresh and fluffy.

With a enzyme based detergent and an oxygen bleach you can wash in any water about about 20 deg C

Cold water washing

All detergents have been claiming for YEARS that they work equally well in all temperatures, so now they're claiming there's a specialneed for cold water detergent? Haven't heard that since the 60's. Remember All-Tempa Cheer?

cold water mindset

My issues with cold water probably are a mindset problem, and not a "real" one. You're right....the cold water here in winter is colder than yours. My Maytag doesn't have ATC, but I could let it fill to low on warm, then switch to cold...I'll give it a try before I cast off the Tide Coldwater to the cabinet where I keep all of the ones I have tried, but did not like...
Does make you wonder....why all of a sudden does PG need to make special cold water formulas....?

Samples?

Who gives out samples any more? I remember how excited we would get when a little box of Tide or Bold would arrive in the mailbox. Now I'm lucky if I get a crummy coupon (usually for 55 cents off of two items).

Bring back those teensy weensy samples ....and while we're at it, how about towels in the boxes of detergent! Say YAY :-)

Done

Glenn:

I just filled out both questionaires and should receive samples/coupons soon! Can't wait to get the little gifts out of the mailbox.

Thanks :-)

Sorry my english is slipping

the laundry tub next to the washers

when the maytag 308s got done draining the tub was full of soap

Also I started a load in the maytag 806s and the load still had soap in it after rinsing

I'm using the line 1 in the measuring cap.

also cold water tide has a strong scent.

Seems To Be A Good Product

I ordered a sample of Tide Cold Water from P&G, and used it in one of my colored-perm press loads today. It didn't suds up too badly, and the fresh scent odor was nice without being nauseating. The clothes did come out clean, but I would really have to try the stuff on my white loads before I can make a judgement. Since a few stores are offering TCW for $4 or $5 a bottle, it may be worth my while to experiment.
As an aside, I have used other liquids in cold water and found for the most part they work well. Also did loads in cold water with Cosco's Kirkland Signature powder, but I first disolved the powder in warm water as the tub filled, then stopped the machine, switched the temperature selector to "cold", and added my clothes once the powder disolved. No staining problem, and the clothes came out clean.

Why I Wash Perm Press In Cold

Actually, I like washing my perm press items in cold water because they shrink less and look better after I take them out of the dryer (using low heat).
To be honest, I wash my whites in hot water, so I'm curious to find out how Tide Cold Water works on whites. (The sample only had enough for one load, so I'm buying a bottle today. Will let you know about the whites in a future message.)
