That was one of the best refrigerators Sears sold .

They delivered ours in december of 1971 I was 10 years old at the time & remember the delivery - I loved that refrigerator .

The good news - I still have it , Its retired now & servs as a food pantry in my kitchen

Poppy:

Never really took off. For starters, not every appliance maker made it. For another thing, a lot of people had yellow or turquoise they couldn't match any more, and that made quite a few people come to their senses about colour - it was getting clear that manufacturers didn't really give a damn about you over the long haul. There were beginning to be problems with getting Coppertone in some models. For the moment, there was plenty of Avocado and Harvest, but that didn't last all that long, and then came the dreary siege of Almond, which became Bisque and really didn't match Almond. Poppy made for a great advert photo, but committing to it meant shelling out for a complete set of majors with no guarantee that the colour would be available even a few years down the road if say, the refrigerator needed replacing.

There is a reason people prefer black and stainless today - they've been bitten on appliance colours so many times that getting stuff that "matches everything" is the only thing that makes financial sense. Majors just cost too much to be playing Colour Roulette.

not every appliance maker made it

Definitely one of the reasons. Frigidaire was one of the very few manufactures that carried poppy colored appliances.

I think the main reason for the demise of poppy was that it came late in the "color" game and anything but white or almond looked VERY dated by the 80's. I don't think poppy even had a 10 year run, unlike avocado, coppertone, and harvest gold which had nearly a 15 year production run.
