Hi everyone,

For the past 18 months I've had my partner David ask me to move in with him, so after 4 years together I'm making that committment.

The sticking point has been what to do with 60+ machines, as they certainly couldn't all come with me. So, a solution came about when asking my loving parents if they'd give up a portion of their backyard for me to build a large shed to permanently house the collection. They wholeheartedly agreed!

So, stage 1 is now complete with the shed finished.

I'll move the collection in there first for storage late December / early January before I move to David's.

The next stages will be to have power, plumbing, wall insulation and the shed lined in 2018 and then 'Leon's Vintage Laundry' will be open for business! Lol

It's always been my dream to have the collection permanently housed somewhere and the majority hooked up and running and my goal will be to see this happen in 2018.

John L saw the concrete slab when he visited Australia, so he now he and I hope other members will one day see the collection too!

Cheers
Leon

Congratulations Leon!   Chris said he'll be sending a wood-panelled GE dishwasher as a 'warehouse opening' present... LOL

Seriously, this is all good news amd I can't wait to see more!!

WOW Leon, this is really awesome news!  I'm very happy for you and David!   SO fantastic of your parents to donate the space to you!   How is it from David's house to your parents?  Hopefully not too long of a drive.  I'm looking forward to all the photos as things progress!

Best,

Kevin

Bruce, is there any reason for you to be so awful?

Leon has worked really hard for this and has put his life and soul into his passion over a very long time. On top of that, he’s one of the most generous people I know.

This post should be a celebration of his beautiful collection having a long term home and him taking the big step with David. Why don’t you take your bitterness and crawl back under a rock.

Please don’t disrupt this thread any further, if you have anything to say to me please message me privately.

Leon, congratulations, this has been a long time coming on all fronts.

Regard

Nathan

Hi Leon.

It's going to look great and can't wait till you are able to show us the pics of your collection settled in their new home.

Good luck with getting everything finished and the big move.

Thanks!

Thanks to the majority of you all for your nice comments, much appreciated!

A couple of answers to some questions:

Chris (gizmo): The shed is from Titan so their red colour is called 'Heritage Red'. If you look at Colourbond's chart, i'm pretty sure it's 'Manor Red'

Justin (countryford): the dimensions in feet are: 29ft 7.5inches x 22 ft 11 inches and with a 9ft ceiling height.

Kevin (RevvinKevin): mum and dad live about a 30 minute drive from David's place, so not really far at all.

And yes: as some of you have stated, I have the most wonderful parents who have enabled this to happen. They'll certainly get to see me a little bit more when I go over and work on the 'babies' !

Oh...and Paul: I have that exact same Hoover and have been promised 2 more from an Australian Hoover engineer: which were pre-production models hand built.

And thanks Nathan for always saying things very eloquently!

Cheers

Leon

New Australian Appliance Museum

Wow Leon, after all the planning and prep work the building really went up fast.

But I know there is still a lot of work and additional expense ahead.

Thanks again to you and David, your parents and Michael and Nathan for feeding and housing me on my two wonderful weeks in Australia in September.

I can't wait to visit again sometime, John L.

Congrats!

Congrats and keep us updated! And if you need any help finding vintage laminates or other finishes to go the extra mile, give me a holler, or ask the gals at retro renovation.

That's dedication....

That's an amazing show of devotion, first on the part of your parents, and then you for spending what must be a large sum on a purpose-built building for your collection.

My only regret is selfish... it's too far away for me to visit.
