Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I guess it's harvest gold, but the control panel appears to have the gold strip along the bottom which would indicate the machine is newer than 1972.

Or, both the panel and the cabinet were repainted at some point.

I know Ken & Nancy are looking for a matched set, but they might have to put one together themselves.

Ralph - I sent them an email fyi of the posting - you might be right - nothing wrong with that, imho even though a set is sweet to find.

Christina - I first thought, Toast, but that wasn't a color category then; I'd place my best on almond. I tried to change the color to harvest gold and couldn't make sense of the surrounding colors. I don't recall what color, if any, Ken and Nancy were wishing for.

I think...

Ken-n-Nancy were actually wanting to find almond & maybe white?
I remember them posting something about their not being able to make harvest gold work for their bathroom color-scheme (or something like that?).
But I kinda remember something about almond being one of their first color choices...
;o)

Thanks for all the notes on here from folks that thought of us on this A806 washer! It's nice to know that you're all cheering for us and looking out for a set on our behalf!

We've been in correspondence with the seller on this one for a couple days. Initially, we could hardly contain our enthusiasm after initially spotting the ad for an A806 within an hour of us! Our initial correspondence confirmed that the washer is almond -- which is our preferred color!

Alas, it's not the wonderful turnkey A806 washer we've been hoping for -- rather, it might be a start on an A806 / DE808 set, but only in so far as it would supply some parts that would need to be "Frankensteined" with another A806 or very similar model.

It sounds like it may be in good mechanical condition, but cosmetically it has a few issues. Most notably, two of the few things that we think would be hard to fix is rust on the porcelain top or inner tub -- and it has both of those issues. Anybody aware of a good way to fix either of these? If the rust were only on the cabinet, we could tackle that, but from what we've read, porcelain tops are nigh impossible to repair and presumably the inner tub wouldn't be much easier. From Ken's experience with his TR6, rust is one of the few items that is really hard to truly fix properly. Thoughts?

We've been considering getting it solely for spare parts, but the price seems fairly steep for a donor washer for parts, especially since even the buttons and control panel seem a little shy of top-notch.

Attached are photos of the rust around the bleach dispenser, at the top edge of the inner tub, and the current state of the control panel.

What do you all think?

PS: We're running out of space to put washers and dryers -- currently have 3 washers and 2 dryers in our living room while our bathroom / laundry room is torn apart: our 1992 almond set with a leaking outer tub on the washer (rusted through) which started this whole adventure, a recently-acquired similar almond set to hopefully use to repair our set, and a temporary-replacement 1997 washer (in white) that we've been using to do our laundry for the last few weeks.

Is pink not an option for this age machine?

I played with the photo a little and tried doing color adjustments based on the white shelf and standpipe behind the machine. Once adjusted for color temp the machine looks pink but I'm not sure the neutral reference points I picked are really neutral...

it does have a pink looking tint to it...

And that's what I thought at first but I'm almost positive pink was not offered this late in the game. And if you look at the extra pictures that Ken-n-Nancy posted with the rust spots, you can see the color of the cabinet is definitely "almond"
:o)

Ken & Nancy

It's definitely in questionable shape.  It might be best to let this one go to someone else.

It could also take you a while to find a matching dryer in almond.  If your first choice is almond, you'd be better off waiting for a matched set.  If white will work, you'll have an easier time putting your own set together if you end up buying the machines separately.
