On Season 4, Episode 25, Rob and Laura and the Helpers are in an old kitchen. Laura mentions that the house is so small that there is not room for a washer and dryer. Millie says, "You can get a combination unit like I did." I thought it was neat that the writers would mention a combo in a TV script. The episode is said to date from 1965 and is a flashback story Rob is telling his accountant.

I recall another flashback episode in which the Petries had just married; there was a Kenmore Frogeye in their apartment.

Actually Millie Helper’s Combo was mentioned in the episode where the Petrie’s and the Helpers go house hunting together and the kitchen you see them in is the Petrie’s kitchen in Willettown, where they lived before moving to New Rochelle. The scene where the combo is mentioned is the scene where Rob and Laura find out the MIllie and Jerry bought their house after talking Rob and Laura out of it. In that scene Laura asks MIllie about the laundry room that MIllie said would not take Laura’s washer and dryer and Millie says it is small but that she has a combination unit. At the end of the scene they group finds out that the model house that was originally sold was for sale again so they take both houses and decide who gets what house on the way to finalize the deal in New Rochelle. The episode where the Petrie’s have the Frog Eyed Kenmore Set was the 1961 flashback episode called Where did I come From and it recounts the last few days leading up to Richie’s birth….PAT COFFEY

The episode mentioning the combination unit and the reason for the laundry room being smaller was because of the boulder in the middle of the basement - anyone remember that?

Wasn't a religious follower of "The Dick Van Dyke" show reruns but couldn't imagine Laura Petrie not having a washer and dryer in her suburban New Rochelle home. I mean can you picture Mrs. Robert Petrie in all her bouffant coiffured glory going to a laundromat? Pedal pushers nor not....*LOL*
Like Samantha Stephens and much of the 1950's 1960's sitcom moms, Laura Petrie was pretty well off, at least solidly middle class. She had furs, a great wardrobe for going into town for shopping, dinner with her husband's clients, shows and what not so you can't tell me she was out back with two wash tubs and a mangle.
Did TDVDS have an appliance corporate sponsor like GM/Frigidaire for Bewitched? That could be why we never saw such things prominently placed in Laura Petrie's kitchen.

We had a black&white
TV set still back then. I imagined them to be white, or yellow.
My father was not very TV friendly.
He thought it would make us stupid and wasn't constructive. In fact he only got a color set in 1979. A 19 inch Sears floor sample with electronic tuning. I think made by Sanyo.
