I had the day off yesterday (1/18), so I decided a road trip was in order. First, I drove over to Shawano, WI (59 miles east of Wausau) to pick up 4 cases of Sun-Drop citrus soda from Twig's Beverage, Inc. They still use glass bottles, and cane sugar. The link is a Milwaukee Journal article about Twig's, and Seymour Beverages.

Then after returning my empties, and loading up the new stock of Sun-Drop, it was time to head east a little further to Seymour, WI. (89 miles east of Wausau), the place where the hamburger was supposedly invented. I picked 5 assorted cases of 10oz. bottles. The flavors I brought home were, orange, grape, root beer, cream soda, fruit punch, cherry, blue raspberry, black cherry, and lime. Seymour Beverage is just a 2 man operation. I was able to go in back to their store room and pick out what I wanted, and they even loaded it into the car for me. Going into the store room was like going back in time 60+ years. Nothing but empty and full bottles from floor to ceiling. While neither the Sun-Drop or the Seymour soda was cheap, it will be worth the memories it will bring back of my childhood. And yes, all the bottles are returnable, recycling in it's purest form.

Anyone tried any of the "Throwback" versions of Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and Dr. Pepper? All with real sugar (although not cane).

danmantn,

I saw cases of vintage the Mountain Dew and Pepsi tonight while I was in Target stating it was made from pure sugar. Is it better than the stuff you get now? I can see my sister-in-law giving this to their young, HIPPER boys lol

Cheerwine!!

You can still get Cheerwine in glass bottles, made with real sugar by the original 1917 recipe.....for those of you non southerners, Cheerwine is a cherry flavored soda made in Salisbury N.C. which is 14 miles from where we live in Mocksville.

Norgeway

Have you ever made the trip to Salisbury to visit the Cheerwine plant? It is worth the drive. I went several years ago and had my first fountain Cheerwine, which I think taste better than the can stuff. I believe they used corn syrup instead of sugar because of the sugar shortage in WWI. Is that true? I far as I know, I don't think there is another place other than this drug store in Salisbury where you can get fountain Cheerwine.
