Commercial refrigeration advice

One of our church kitchen refrigerators has been acting up lately.
It’s a True model T-35G refrigerator that is about 20 years old.

It won’t drop below 45-50 degrees and runs constantly.
Is there anything I could attempt to remedy this issue?
Also with the age of the unit is it worth having serviced?

I would check that it's not fully frosted up and therefore the air is not flowing through the evaporator. If that's OK, next check that the condenser fan is running and cooling the condenser and compressor. If those are OK, you would need to do some other testing such as compressor power draw and temperature measurements at various points in the system.

True are generally very well built and worth fixing.

When was the last time the True was cleaned?  I mean blowing out the top coils and the base coils.   Really making sure the unit is clean.  This is a yearly maintenance issue here at St. Paul's.  

Each month as the computer generated calendar changes I get 2-5 things that are ASAP on the monthly maintenance schedule.  Greg

I took the bottom cover off tonight and cleaned the coils.
Plugged back in and will see how the temp is tomorrow before mass.

Commercial True refrigerator Not Getting Cold Enough

Do check out the things that David and Greg mentioned, but I am going to bet it has lost refrigerant and has a refrigerant leak.

 

A lot of these commercial refs have copper tubing in the evaporators which is very prone to corroding and getting pin-hole leaks in them. But given the high cost of these refs I would get a professional to check it out and consider repair if the cost of repair is less than 1/3 the cost of replacement.
