Well, definitely not as cool as Bethann's Frigidaire, but here's the result of a couple weeks of disassembly and cleaning- If you remove the cooktop, it's literally spotless under there. And compare the clock face to the original pics in the old thread; that face was yellow before!

I redid all the lettering on the knobs and metal trim, and completely disassembled the door and seperated the glass. Looks pretty spiffy!

Thats beautiful, Cory!

I especially like the curliques on the minute hand of the clock. Why don't appliances come in colors anymore? (I don't consider biscuit or graphite to be colors-noncolors if anything) I demand appliance beauty! (i'll just go back in my cage now)

Great job Cory! I love the clock! Was it a pain getting it apart? What kind of touch up paint did you use on the lettering,if I may ask? I have some touch up to do myself. That style is cool also! What year is it?

Frigidaire

Hi Cory, The clock on yours looks like mine. I think its a 1968 to 1972 model. My model #is RG35N1. Yours really looks great! And BTW while were on kicthen stuff has anybody seen the new Equal (sugar substitute) commercial on HGTV? Love those vintage kitchens!

Ding, Ding, Ding!

Beautiful restoration job, Cory. Did everything function properly?

Frigidaire's "Model Index and Identifier" shows "N" series ranges were 1968, "P" 1969-70, "S" 71-73, "W" late 73-74.

Both of these are great examples of good construction, engineering and materials - a little elbow grease and touch-up and look how beautiful they turn out!

restoration

Does anyone know what the original finish on stove eyes is or how to restore it? It looks like a type of plating known as parco used in the automotive industry to prevent rust.

veg-o-matic, the little light next to the oven know was to indicate the heating elements cycling on & off (and preheating). Tht little knobby next to that light was the oven interior light knob. There'a comparable console "light" next to the burner knobs to indicate a surface unit was on. Seeing this makes me so homesick for the 1972 Frigidaire Deluxe cooktop & double wall oven we had in the lake house. That kitchen also had our first rotorack and Kenmore fridge. All in HARVEST GOLD!!

Now we're cookin'

Yeah, Appnut nailed it, there are two lights, one for surface, one for oven. I used white nail polish enamel to do all the dials and the front panel. You get a feel for the material and how much laquer thinner to use once you get going. I could do one set of numbers, or 4 tick marks. Apply the enamel, wait a few seconds, then with a clean paper towel with some thinner, run it over the top. You have to use a new section of towel each time, and need to get the timing just right. The GM logo on the front was the toughest, there's lots of white area and to keep it from showing any of the brush marks, it took at least half an hour of repeated applications and gentle wiping. Came out looking spiffy though!
