If you subscribe to Consumer Reports magazine, turn to page 17 of the (current) March issue.

Several subscribers are shown with their vintage appliances. Take a look at the (supposedly) 1954 dryer. Doesn't that look to you like a circa 1961 Model 70? I thought Kenmore washers/dryers of the 1954 vintage were either 'frog eye' or 'cyclops' machines.

I don't get C.R. How much did they drag vintage appliances through the mud?!?! C.R. always seems to be about "buy new" saying that you are taking your chances on reliability using an old product.

They also seem to harp on the energy efficiency too, saying that old appliances consume more energy...well, maybe some, but according to my watts up power meter, the old 48 frigidaire 12cu/ft fridge I had was right up there with my 2006 Frigidaire 15 cu/ft when it comes to power consumption in the same house!

The part in the article and picture of the folks that have the 1980 Sylvania TV with the fishtank on top!!!don't the owners and CU know its DANGEROUS to have a fishtank or other water filled container on top of any "electronic" appliance?Could imagine the nightmare if the fishtank leaked or broke-and these things happen when you are not home or asleep. And the one of the 1959 Oster blender-Looks like a new container on the blender base-didn't the 1950's era ones have the plastic or metal handle strapped to the container? And the 1939 KA mixer-the ones I have seen from then have the vertical motor."Drill Press" ones.
