curious.. I always love to experiment anyways, and have been thinking about whether it would be possible to convert a vented tumble dryer to a condenser type, using either a kit or some sort of homemade device. No, I dont mean one of those cruddy boxes which let the dryer vent out into the room, while the lint is supposed to be caught in the water, (and the lint still goes everywhere). I mean a true condenser type dryer. Only info I can find online is for doing the exact opposite, converting condenser dryers to vented, lol.. Has anyone else tried this?

possible...

could be done, but would be almost impossible to build into a standard vented dryer
-most of condensing apparatis would have to be built beside the dryer and the
dryer hooked up to it...
I have two condenser dryers;an asko air cooled condenser with 2500w heater that
works pretty decent and a splendide combo that is water cooled condenser in dryer
mode-115v and only about 1200w,the small splendide takes about 2 hrs to dry a
typical load-about twice as long as the asko takes.

I was assuming it would have to be a seperate unit next to the dryer. but it seems it should be possible, if one had the schematics of a condenser unit to go by...

condenser dryer operation

It's actually pretty simple how they work-with an air cooled condenser dryer, the
the hot, very humid air is recirculated through tubing or channels of a heat
exchanger-cooler ambient air is blown through seperate channels of the heat
exchanger cooling it and causing moisture in the hot humid recirculated air
to "sweat off"the heat exchanger and drop into a collection pan where the moisture
is drained off
In water cooled condenser dryer operation(my splendide at least)a fan-forced
heater recirculates heated air in the drum while cold water trickles along the
inside of the metal outer tub-cooling it and causing moisture to "sweat off" the
surface of the outer tub to be drained away...

is the water pan inside the same tubing the air flows through? so the air is passing right over the surface of the water, or is there some sort of perforated barrier? or am i completely not understanding this? lol.. i need pics...

AWESOME!

Ok, I can see now what you guys were trying to describe. Now, does the condensed moisture drip through what appears to be the perforated peice at the back of the dryer? If not, what is the path for the condensed moisture?

CONDENSER CLOTHES DRYERS [ CONVERSION ]

I have already pulled together some of the equipment that I am going to use to convert a 1967 KM electric dryer [ with electronic moisture sensor ] to a heat pump clothes dryer. I am using the refrigeration system salvaged from one of these nearly useless portable AC units. There will be a separate unit that will be installed either next to or maybe above the dryer, if above I will not have to use a drain pump or water collection container as the water can just flow into a sink or nearby drain. I hope to work on this later this year. I will keep everyone posted about it when it is up and running John.
