My Dad Worked For WT Grants--!

--So we had the entire Bradford Line of Appliances: Harvest Gold 14 Cu. Ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator (much like a Kelvinator I later saw, only this one was bigger & had TWO light bulbs & much resembled a Philco Side X Side because the Logo & "No Frost" was across the top in the same manner); Harvest Gold Electric Range w/ a 3-way switch for the oven light & lighted clock/timer , & had the controls up front w/ two lights, the one on left for the oven & the right for the burners; White Portable Dishwasher (it was the basic model w/ one knob); Avocado Washer & Dryer Set...

We watched these break & get replaced one-by-one, 'cept we did w/o a dishwasher until we got my grandma's almond Kenmore (also basic one-knob model but w/ Heat/No Heat buttons) which is mostly used for storing Tupperware & Rubbermaid containers, etc.

Gonna have to put my "appliance history" somewhere here, someday!

I will! Just that somehow I had to create a "NEW" profile due to the software change!

There is a lot to write, such as my Grandma's General Electric w/ the left-opening lid & the knobs set up like a HOTPOINT (& someone unfamiliar w/ that temporary design didn't believe me & said "IT'S A HOTPOINT!")

It had three water levels, two speeds & the wash rinse combinations were: Hot / Warm, Warm / Cold, Cold / Cold (Grandma had to turn the switch after the Hot wash filled so she'd get a COLD rinse with it, much like I did years later with my mom's 1992 almond Maytag, lacking the Warm / Warm setting, after the Warm Wash filled, even though I disliked pressing the Hot / Warm button, as I was afraid I'd forget I washed the delicates in Warm, which I did; just wanted the Rinse to be, too!)

Eh, to be continued...!

Dave, I believe you about your Grandma's GE style. That may have been about the time the RCA brand was being put on GE washers & dryers. Those themselves were a mixture of GE & Hotpoint washers and I vaguely remember seeing those types of GEs in certain sales ads in the newspaper. So, I believe ya!!

I saw a GE Washer & Dryer once with that "Hotpoint-hangover" design, which was discarded at a curb-side & somehow shortly after, there was a fancy Lady Kenmore pair (w/ a lotta knobs!), also left at a curb (near the same spot!), too...

One other neat design was the Lady Kenmore W&D with the concealed controls, I would see at one time or another (the neighbors across the street had an avocado green pair, of which the washer was replaced by a series of less-fancy Whirlpools, while the Dryer was later replaced by a White-Westinghouse, which with the way they often LINE-DRY their clothes, might still be there today, & that was how the Lady Kenmore dryer got more life out of, but when the White Westy was delivered, somehow the delivery guys left from the back of the house w/o the old Kenmore... The lady that lived there yelled through the front door something like: "We're Suing!" Could it be that the old, green "Lady K" got dropped down the stairs????)

I am pretty sure ALL these RCA dsihwashers were Hotpoint/GE designed....mainly because GE still owned RCA when these were built....PAT COFFEY

Pat, yes I realize that. However, the two more expensive models (with the shorter height lower access panel) were actual GE machines. The other being Hotpoint because at that time, Hotpoint dishwashers were still completely different beasts than a GE dishwasher. Hotpoint was still using a different, weaker motor as well as the speckled porcelain tub and the typical Hotpoint racks. As well all the other typical Hotpoint markings at the time. It was not until well into the 1980s that the old Hotpoint design was discontinued and replaced with the GE box.
