I have purchased several DVDs from the UK which of course is a different region code than North America. The DVDs play fine on my computer but will not play on my DVD recorder. I have found conversion software on the internet but have found them all very confusing to use. Does anyone know of some simple easy way to convert DVDs so that they will play in my Panasonic DVD recorder? Thanks!

What model of home dvd player do you have? You can unlock it or set it to code 0. This will let you play any dvd you want. It will not hurt the dvd player at all. I have all my player set to zero and I use many different dvd's on theme.

This link has some of the codes to unlock a home player

Ok I gave you player a long search in Google. No luck that is so odd. I will keep looking for any codes or info for your player.

So now back to the first part convert dvd's

I know two ways myself to do this.

1 way nero it might be able to copy the dvd if it is not copy protected.

If so you can then pick the format you want to save the new copy as.

Nero let's you pick Pal or Ntsc I always stick to pal if the source is pal. I have done this for many dvd's for people and find all tv's play pal just fine.

Other way

a copy of DVD Decrypter this you will have to search for it. this will take the dvd and pull the copys of the main video audio files to your pc hard drive.

From there you can then copy them to a new dvd. using any dvd recorder software.

Coldspot,
Thanks for the info. I haven't made many DVDs so I am not even sure what software I have on my pc for burning DVDs. I think it is Nero but will have to check tonight. I have downloaded 3 or 4 conversion programs but I haven't had luck with any of them. I don't know if I am doing something wrong or what. The tools I used did copy the main video audio files to my pc and then I burned them to a new DVD. It played fine on my PC but when I put it in the DVD recorder I got the message, format not recognized. If I remember correctly I converted it to a .WMV file.

Gary, it's easier to convert your Panasonic recorder into a region-free device, rather than having to convert files all the time.

There are two ways to go about upgrading your recorder:

1. Buy a "chipped" remote control:

Or 2. Follow instructions at the page referenced below.

The code to make your recorder region free is:

0082 0015 0089 0004 00F2 0033 0017 0010 0091 0013

But this complete code cannot be sent to the recorder by using its own remote control. This webpage outlines various devices you can use to send the sequence:

Here's one more discussion about it. Apparently someone found a code sequence that works on Panasonic's own remote control:

Well it let you burn the dvd's as a .mpeg file? Not many dvd's players work with wmv.

One thing if the codes post above me qwork then that is the easy thing to do unlock the player.

Once you get the dvd burning part down you can make copy's of your dvd's for safe keeping.

I never had a dvd play recorder miss up from any region hack. I read a lot about your player and sounds like most with a hardedrive in it.

so once you do the unlock it will reset all settings. Any saved record settings you have you might have to reenter them after words.

If you enter the code wrong it will not hurt or screw up the player at all. It will just be like hitting the wrong button with no disc in the drive or setting on the remote. lol

JeffG,
I checked out the link you gave but I couldn't find the info about using the recorder's own remote control to enter the code sequence? I read all the messages on several pages before and after but still no luck. Can you point me to the message with that info?

Coldspot,
I read about the 8 different methods of entering the codes but I don't have any of those devices :-(

I do have Nero on my computer so I will give that a try to copy the DVD (didn't have time last night). If all else fails then I will order that hacked remote control to see if it works.

Thanks to you both for your help!

Zone Free DVD player

Gary, two or three years ago while in NYC (during one of my frequent US shopping binges!) I purchased a CyberHome DVD player for something like US$ 30. As delivered, the player was "locked" to Zone 1, but after performing a very easy procedure I found on the internet I unlocked it for Zone Free operation. I can assure you I play back Zone 1, Zone 2 and Zone 4 DVD's, both in NTSC and PAL TV systems (I have both at home).

Just think of what you have spent on your Zone 2 DVD's, US$ 30 is nothing compared to it, it's well worth the try!
