LWI (or E for electric) is a 1971 model-year.
M050 serial = 50th week of 1970.

My grandmother had an LXE-5500, 1972 model-year.

How many of these style faceplates are out there? It just doesn't seem very 70's from what I see. Are there regional differences in the styling? Did the east coast differ from the midwest? matt

I agree with DADoES. This is a 1970 to 1972 MOL/BOL model. Those partial consoles were around at least since the mid 60s, but they were upright, not slanted like this one is. It was not until at least 1970 before models of this lower ranking and console style had the slant. Also notice the rear of the drum in the interior shot. The bulkhead is the fixed type that remains stationary as the drum rotates. This was first issued around 1966 and continues to this day. I am guessing this dryer must be of low mileage, as it does not appear to have any rust, or discoloration from heating. I hope somebody grabs it.

Have a good one,
James

I was thinking early 70's too. It was a good design, as Glenn said, the drum design is still in use today. Whirlpool had the stationary rear bulkhead and the huge drum years ahead of many other mfr's. im a Hamper door guy though, never cared much for the sideswing door. alr2903

You learn something new everyday

I just checked my 2001 Whirlpool dryer, the rear bulkhead doesn't turn, never even thought about it, I just always assumed the whole thing went around. Still a newbie I guess....

Yeah, Whirlpool's been using that non-rotating back design for a looooong time. I've had the experience of changing the belts on these several times -- it's a pig-wrestling exercise.

A friend and co-worker of my mothers had a Whirlpool washer that had a similar control panel, this was in the mid 70's. I looks like someone took really good care of it.
