I have been researching online to learn about Kitchen Aid mixers and have seen on E bay and on YouTube a copper bowl liner Ebay #321322150712 that slid very tightly into the stainless mixing bowl and also where the copper bowl would slide into a plastic outer bowl. What would be the cooking uses of having a copper bowl liner such as this or is this some kind of novelty? Bill,

It's for whipping egg whites. The copper liner assists whipping. The acid in the metal is what does it, and makes addition of other acids (cream of tartar etc) unnecessary.

Also check out item# 161225467371, it includes the plastic outer bowl and the starting price is a bit more reasonable.[this post was last edited: 2/16/2014-09:52]

Hello Jeff G Thanks for the answer about copper liner. I asked my wife about whipping egg whites to make a meringue and she said she would have to add cream of tartar. Does using the copper bowl totally eliminate adding cream of tartar? Did the copper bowl have any other specific uses? Was that plastic outer pot just to hold the copper bowl? Is the copper bowl somewhat rare for a Kitchen Aid mixer? You learn something new everyday. Bill,

I have found

that using my handmade copper bowl (for "balloon" whisk or hand-held mixer) does indeed increase stability of the eggwhite foam, and for me, at least, minimizes, but does not reduce the need for cream of tartar (tartaric acid, a by-product of wine-making) Or maybe I'm just not adept at eggwhites.

I don't have one for my K45, nor do I have the space for one. It's a fun extra, however. If I was going to get an attachment for my KitchenAid, I'd save for the pasta roller set.

I have the copper liner and use it all the time when doing egg whites.  I still use a bit of cream of tartar.  I polish it with a half a lemon and some salt when it gets tarnished, do not want to use chemicals on it.  Have also tried ketchup, told it works but for me not so well.
