Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

No, not brass

But copper tub. The inside of that washer has been painted brown which was a stupid thing to do. Interior of tubs on Easy vacuum washers were tin lined.

It is amazing how many of those Easy vacuum washers are still out there, many in working order.

Laundering with the vacuum principle began early with various hand held devices such as the C.T. Childers Rapid Washer (the clothes stomper I mentioned in another thread). In the UK these were called "possers" but the idea was same; a device forces water/air into laundry on the downward stroke, and creates a vacuum on the upward forcing in water/soap then pulling it out. Rinsing did the same just forcing out dirty water.....

Easy and a few others got the idea to motorize the process and there you are; it is amazingly good at getting out dirt and rather gentle on laundry. Far less harsh than some central beaters in use both then and now.

Easy even sold a version of this machine complete with gas connection so you could heat water for a proper boil wash.
