I am so excited about that new Shark V600Z yellow-head cordless sweeper I just bought a few days ago-does anyone out there have any experience with cordless sweepers?

I have one and it works pretty well. Way better than the tedium of a broom and dustpan. I just regret not getting the type that has the corner sweeper brushes on it. It works pretty well on carpets too, as long as they're not too shaggy. On the rubber-backed type of area rugs it will try to eat the whole rug if you get too close to the edge but it fluffs them up real nice.

negative reviews on Amazon.com

I've also been hearing negative reviews on Amazon.com against the Shark brand-handles breaking off, batteries not holding charge, brushes stop turning, chargers overheating, customer service not cooperative, and a whole crop of other problems.

I would steer clear of the Euro Pro/Shark brand. I had a Euro Pro/Shark "dustbuster" vac that had a bad AC converter plug. I took it to the local appliance repair shop to see if I could get a replacement cord and was told that I would have to deal with Euro Pro directly, as most repair shops do not stock Euro Pro parts and can't make repairs on them. It sounded to me like this is the arrangement Euro Pro prefers. So the Shark went into the garbage and I will not buy another Euro Pro product as a result. If I had known this earlier, I would not have allowed the purchase of the Shark sweeper.

Bissel makes similar sweepers and I'm sure you can get parts and repairs made without any trouble on those. My Shark sweeper hasn't given me any trouble at all. It holds a charge fine and while the handle design is a little weird, once you know its quirks you can avoid breakage. At some point something is likely to go wrong with this thing. It wasn't very expensive. It will be tossed when that happens since I already know I won't be able to get it repaired without a lot of time, effort, hassle and expense. No more Sharks of any kind for me.

my sweeper IS a Euro-Pro/Shark brand

But my sweeper is a Euro-Pro/Shark brand. I bought it because unlike the Bissell, you can buy parts for it. With the Bissell, you have to have it serviced professionaly.

Hmmmm. . . maybe my local repair shop was BS'ing me about parts and repairs for Sharks. They're a fairly small operation so maybe if I venture out a little further than my own neighborhood I can find a parts/repair place that handles Euro Pro products. Thanks for the info.

Interesting about Bissel. Seems all bets are off regarding modern appliance manufacturers and their approach to the possible need for parts or repairs.

battery charging issues

Something else that could settle an argument-the instruction manual says to charge it for 20 hours for the first time, I hook it up and plug it in to be charged, the charge indicator light is lit up for about an hour, then when I go back to check on it, the charging light is out. What's wrong?

Don't know what's wrong. Mine has a green light that remains lit as long as the thing is plugged in even if it's fully charged. Maybe another case of a bad cord/converter plug like I had with my little Shark vacuum.

something I forgot to say last post

Something I forgot to post is that after I unplugged the sweeper charger after the red charge light went out after about an hour, was that the sweeper was running and everything. The batteries had charge in them. I believe the unit had charge in it out of the box. Could the charger still be bad?

I bought one a couple of years ago and it broke pretty quick so I took it back.. There's a place here in town called Xcess Cargo much like Overstock.com and they sell them for anywhere between 10 & 20 bucks so I got my mom one a couple of weeks ago and she loves it.
