I recently purchased a new GE french door fridge from a local independently owned appliance company and am looking to purchase an extended warranty for the unit.

As I reside in Hawaii, Bodewell (GE's underwriter) does not offer any contracts here and in AK.

Ordinarily I would purchase a plan from the dealer, but the company they use has atrocious customer reviews, so that's not an option.

When I google the subject I'm presented with many home warranty protection plans of which I do not want, I simply want to purchase an extended warranty for the GE and nothing else.

Past experiences with a lemon Whirlpool fridge are greatly influencing my decision to purchase some sort of extended warranty for the GE, so I'm not easily swayed otherwise.

Can anyone recommend an independent underwriter who will sell a single appliance contract and not some sort of home warranty?

Somehow it seems such companies are rarer than hen's teeth...

I would never buy any extended warranty on any appliance

You’re better off just putting that money aside if you can’t budget for repairs and let it accumulate do the same for each of your major appliances and you’ll have a considerable sum of money saved every year that will continue to grow.

Every consumer group I’ve ever reviewed literature from has worn against buying contracts on major appliances or small appliances for that matter.

If you’re buying contracts on major appliances, you’re living beyond your means you should buy simpler appliances in most states the lottery actually pays out at a much higher rate than service contracts if you’d like to gamble that’s a better way to do it apparently.

Yes, I know five or six people are going to chime in and tell us how much they saved by having a contract and even getting an appliance replaced that had problems, but we’re not going to hear from the hundreds of people on this site who bought contracts and never got sent out of them, as Richard Nixon would say the silent majority lol
