Just wondering if this pot is complete? I have never seen an electric one before.
It is missing the cord. Are they hard to find?
Can the pot be used on the burner if you changed the filter basket thingy?

Brian - it looks like all the parts are there except the cord, which is not a standard percolator cord. It has a smaller connector to the pot, and it plugs into the lower side of the handle. You should be able to find a cord online.

They also made a non-electric (stove top) version of this pot - it had the stem/basket insert and was designed to use on top of the stove.

I have one of these and they make pretty good coffee. Enjoy!

I've attached a picture of Corning's proprietary cord for your Electromatic's model series.  You can find them on ebay but they're usually overpriced.  I've found most of my cords included with thrift store pots, which usually cost less than just a cord plus shipping on ebay.  Earlier models of the Electromatic used a standard percolator cord.  You can spot those types by the stainless steel trim plate that surrounds the faceted indicator light at the top of the heating assembly.  However, those assemblies will not interchange with later types like yours.

Plain white is a less common Electromatic design than those with a pattern.

I don't think your pot would convert well to a stove-top use.  Even if the stove-top stem and basket fit into your pot, you'd have a big hole at the top of the handle and the lid may not snap in securely.

Stove top pots turn up at thrift stores more than their Electromatic counterparts, so it that's what you'd prefer, just keep an eye out.

If you do get a cord, the first step would be running a cleaning cycle.  Fill with water to the 10-cup mark in the empty pot, insert heating & basket assembly, dump a good teaspoon or so of dishwasher detergent in the basket, place spreader on top, snap lid on, and plug it in.  If you don't have the trivet that came with the pot, place it on a heat-resistant surface or a potholder.

corningware percolator recall

These percolators are dangerous - don't use it. Google "corningware percolator recall" to get the full history of these pots. Both electric and stove top models
were problematic.

It's a shame. I also had one and it did make great coffee.

Be very careful

The recall is probably why your pot came without a cord. Corning had people send back the cord or cut off the plug to get a refund. If you put Corning Electromatic in the search window, you will find a lot of information. All I can tell you is that if you do use it, never lift it by the handle when it is full. Tip it forward without lifting to pour, but keep the front edge on the counter.

Not only was there a glue problem with the bond of the collar to the pot, there was also the problem of people putting these in the dishwasher and that vulnerable open place in the handle often got exposed to the heat of the drying element under the lower rack. People would bring them into the store with that area damaged. Sooner or later that would break.

Yes, it is a shame. I used for a while a small Electromatic, and I think it was the best percolator coffee I've had. Although admittedly I don't have the wide percolator experience some people on this site have.

Note there are some CorningWare pots that aren't part of the recall. The metal band was attached some other way--not the problematic design of along the top, with glue. This Etsy seller apparently has such a percolator:

Note the metal band is lower on the pot, and surrounded by the pot top and bottom.

The Sky Is NOT Falling

I can tell by looking at the subject pot that it predates the recalled series.

The quickest way to tell is by the stainless collar and spout.  On the recalled ones, the collar is smooth all the way to the top, unlike the pot above, which has a crease in the collar.  The recalled type also have a smaller clear plastic insert in the lid, or have a solid black one-piece lid.

The sites linked above offer more information on how to identify a recalled pot, but none of that information applies to the subject pot.

I've attached a picture of a pot that has the design of those that were recalled.  This pot didn't get the "new" adhesive, but it was still part of the recall.  It's entirely safe to use.

When the recall took place, owners were advised to send only the lid from their pots to Corning in order to obtain restitution.  That was enough to render the pots useless, so everything else, including the cord, remained in the hands of the owner.

I have a 3 Electromatic percs of which one of them is identical to the Spice O' Life pot Ralph posted above, and have been using it for nearly 4 years on and off, and no problems so far.  Corning made some of the best percolators ever in my humble opinion.
