Costco, Sam's Club and BJ's which is the best warehouse store ?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I belonged to all 3 at one time or another......

right now its just BJ's and CostCo...........

more or less, one is no different that the other.....not a lot of variety in areas....

but I do like CostCo better, their private brand stuff is at a good savings......

but for some stuff, like a vacuum or TV, Walmart, Target, Kmart is the same price, so where is my big members only discount?

No BJ's out here.

So between Costco and Sam's, Costco wins.

CR agrees as well, at least when it reviews things like TV's or computers.

Since Sam's Club is owned by Walmart, no big surprise that Walmart stores can sometimes match its pricing.

There are many more Costco stores around this region than Sam's Clubs (I know of only one Sam's Club with 30 miles radius). But when I'm in the area anyway, I will sometimes stop off at Sam's to see if they have anything I can't do without. Usually I leave empty handed.

I keep telling them they need a 50 items or less line.....

Costco for me too.... mainly because there's one 4 - 5 blocks from my house.   Because they are so close there have been occasions I've gone to Costco 3 times in one week!   Also because they are so close, I gotten out of there for just $5 and sometimes less (for a rotisserie chicken, eggs or bananas)!

We belong to Sam's and I hate to say it's a rare occasion when we go there. Since it's only the two of us in a house that has limited storage, we can get overloaded very quickly there. We never seem to get out for less than $100.00 per trip. And some of the frozen foods in those super large packs don't really taste that good anyway. We also get tired of the same old same old food after awhile. But that's just us. But we get our membership free, so we really can't complain.

We went to Costco once with some friends who had a membership. We found the store to be much nicer than Sam's. (Cleaner, brighter, better selection). The meat department was just as nice as most of the mainstream grocery stores are.

All we have is Sams's since we are in Wal Mart land.  Only 20 miles from the corporate office.  Have been to Costco and they are nice.

Cape Cod...

Has a BJ's

It's like a general store. The Cape Cod Commision has put so many restrictions on them they barely have the necessaties. I have to drive to Plymouth which is only a 1/2 hour away to truly enjoy the store that is 15 times the size of the one here on the Cape, I only use the Cape store for buying Meat and some Produce. Plus the BJ's in Plymouth has a Fuel Station and a Tire Store in which I bought 4 Michelins for my truck and got a great deal.

The quality of the meat at Costco always seems to be superior to that of the local supermarkets like Safeway or Lucky's. Plus it's one of the few places where one can purchase pre-wrapped prime grade beef cuts. It's expensive, but it's nice to know it's available.

Even for a single person household these places can be good bargains. I mean, it doesn't hurt to stock up on nonperishable items like TP, napkins, paper towels. I also get my printer paper there. The clothing is fairly good quality, as well, although one must act quickly to get some items because Costco treats them as seasonal items - so if you'll looking for a warm sweater in the spring, you're out of luck. And of course the selection is, at best, a bit eclectic.

I also like their bananas and some of the other produce. But I try to avoid getting bulk food items that I know I'll probably wind up throwing out most of the contents. It helps to have a big chest freezer ;-).

I like BJs a little more than Costco, although the closest BJs is in Cleveland (I shopped there when i lived in Atlanta. I can't justify a membership for Costco, but share one with an old neighbor...I've been known to stop in for lunch and get a gallon of milk and a bag of bananas. I prefer to use coupons (which you can do at BJs) and buy small economy sizes with double coupons from Meijer or Super Kmart.

Sams club my way-gave up on them years ago-when I compared prices-the prices on most of their food items was not much diffrent than Food Lion-and FL had more choices---so if you needed that pallet full of paper towels, napkins, potty roll-then Sams Club may be for you---remember these stores were primarily intended for BUSINESS use-not consumer use.sometimes you could get good deals on things like books and DVD's at Sams Club. But for what it is-not worth the yearly membership cost.

Sam's Club, of course

But I admit to bias: My loved one works for Sams, so I have to be loyal to the home team or face being kicked out of the bedroom!

Several years ago I had a Sam's Club membership. They had a two-for-one special going and one of my friends and I joined together for a year. I only went a couple times, so didn't renew. The friend and his wife kept theirs for a couple more years, and then decided to join Costco instead. I went to Costco a couple times with him, and remember getting a delicious fresh baked apple pie there. I think they still belong, but I've not gone with him recently.

For food, paper and cleaning items I like GFS (Gordon Food Service). No membership is required, and their prices and quality are good. Most food products are large institutional sizes, rather than the multi-packs of regular sizes like at Costco or Sam's.
