Could Washers be a thing of the past

I have just read an article about a waterless washer - yikes!! Reading through the article is appears the washing can be done using ions. (Article attached)

This will be so sad, we'll only have a few vintage machines to keep us going.

Do you think this technology will be possible?

this invention they have discovered needs to be destroyed. And soon, i cant imagine not being able to wash my clothes the way i do now. i think it will come down to choice in the end. But saying that, the hectic busy lifestyle most of us lead it will save time for really busy families. I just hope its not in my lifetime.

Deodorants?

Oh people, adding scent and / or deodorants to a space, a room,hard-goods or clothing does not WASH or clean it. It masks the real problem.

Have no fear, this will probably progress as well as microwave-energy heated dryers did.

Perhaps as an ADDED feature to a real washer..........

And why /how did the world wake-up so suddenly and realize that water is life and should not be polluted or wasted?

plus i have just though on, all the detergent company's would lose billions a year in washin powder stain removers etc so hopefully it wont take off.

..as it is in the US, with the mass (re-)introduction of front-loaders I'm sure detergent mannies and importers are crying the blues that consumption of detergent goes down to a quarter of what it was per load with each new front-loader put into service (that replaces a top-loader).

I am pretty stuborn.What is wrong with what i have now. I have a rotary phone in the kitchen and in the bedroom( one is fitted with a touch tone modulaor on it), if is not broke, don't fix it. From what the article said, it said stain removal. Try putting my comfoter in that little thing after the cat throws up on it. Ikkky!!! It is just nice to put it in the washer, put it on 140 F and wala!! It just seems wrong to me. So very wrong!!

Oh my-the thing looks like a giant air purifier-and they say in the article with the picture of the "machine"that is what its based on-I don't think that machine will clean the clothes-it may "freshen" then somewhat-like remove some odors.I am afraid as one poster mentions if the cat barfs on your conforter-you will need to wash it in WATER and detergent.I think I will stay with washers that use WATER.As another person mentions-the thing may end up as future crusher bait-or it might make a good target stand?

Oh dear...VERY Dry-cleaning... without solvent either

Here I said I'm working on my "tesi", and some of you know that the topic is "The Washer"...but maybe none of you knows that the way to do it is ECODESIGN!

I mean with that word to be the ECOLOGY the most important target of the final conclusion, together with some other ones...

I knew about that XXX (I can't call it washer... where's the "oblò"?!?LOL)... but...I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT CONSIDER IT AS AN EXAMPLE!

One is to save water and to invent and produce a washer or anything can get your clothes clean with the RIGHT amount of water and energy... OTHER IS TO DON'T USE WATER AT ALL!!!!!

Most of modern FL can wash very big load using very low amount of water in comparison to the older ones.

And even when you say Dry-cleaning... of course there's not water to be used but a solvent! So always there MUST be a MEDIUM wich take the dirt out of fabrics and take it away...

Would it be the AIR to do this?!?!? I don't think so...

I don't think we've got anything to worry about

I think this is a nice idea (for some - not me) but I think it is unrealistic.

What I can perhaps see is detergents that only need 1 rinse (if any at all). Maybe even additives for the last rinse that improve creaseless washing and make drying easier.

Driers might improve with a system were water is evaporated without the heat perhaps.

These things, I think may be possible one day.

New detergents

In the UK we already have soapless detergents. Littlecrystlas designed to allow the machine to skip out all rinse cycle. I have only seen my neighbour use one and I have to sya they don't appeal. I like to see bubbles then I know things are getting cleaned. Certainly her wash appears to be clean however she is elderly and does not have a dirty wash as such more of a freshen up. Quite amusing in a way she recently purchased a Bosch washing machine and can't grasp the idea of the programme selector not moving she therefore starts the machine on 60 stains and runs the programme through then on the rinse setting then drain then spin. Takes her forever. Well seeing she only does one load a week. She got rid of a hoover delux still working but door catch was going. nice machine still did the old distribute with the water in drum.

Good! Very interesting those needless-rinses NEW detergents...
I wonder how do they work? But over all I wonder if they are beeing thought to save the water of rinses or to save the time in the lenght of the rinse-cycle...

Will they be dangerous for the environement? Have they got the Eurolabel?

Cbosch, you will be very kind if you could give me some informtation more aobut those new detergents you are speaking about...Thank you very much

The "Eco Balls" apparently work pretty well, and only really need one rinse after the wash cycle to do their job. However, while they're fine when stuff isn't particularly dirty, they do need a bit of a hand with serious dirt. They act quite well as a softener as well - stuff is definitely softer than using just detergent.

I have to say I like to use detergent, but I'd maybe consider using something like that to reduce the amount of detergent I used though certainly not stopping using it all together.

One thing that would annoy me about those balls is the bashing... it pisses me off on the few times that I use liquid so I don't think I'll be using that Ecoballs anytime soon

BTW, I think that if a lot of these Ecoballs also come with a stain remover from the same range then it doesn't really install much faith into the cleaning performance of the Ecoballs!

Prefer comfort to any other fabric softner

I prefer the Persil powders or gel tabs - mum used Persil liquid recently and wasn't too smart on cleaning or on rinsing out, and soon switched back to her usual Persil Non Bio. Comfort's my favourite softener too but I'm allergic to it, so I have to use Surcare or Ecover :-(.

tried the new tesco own label ecover style softener? Its rank! Almond and cotton flower or something, yuk lol. My favourite softener at the minute is. . . . lenor yellow. Lol. And my detergent collection is getting worse than jons wardrobe too! Im getting me some new Bold flavour tonight! For a flower scent its very nice. Crushed silk and jasmine. Nick

Nick, not been to Tesco for a while - been using Asda or Sainsburys as they are both 5 mins away versus a drive across town, stocked up on enough Surcare at the moment though while it was going cheap at Wilkos (2 bottles for 85p) so got another bottle of that to go through when this bottle is finished .

Have to say most favourite softener smell has to be the blue Henkel softener Sainsburys sell - but these are disappearing off their website now so I hope that these aren't following the same route as the Megaperls :-(.
