I have a counter top Danby. Personally I really like it. The inside is small so you need to wash at least once a day. Sometimes for big dinners when the familys over Ive had to run it more than once to get everything donr but it still beats sstanding endlessly at the sink.

My only complaint is that in overall outside size. Be prepared to compromise the space of that of a huge microwave. It took me a few positions on the counter before I was happy. It still looks abit bohemoth tho. Another guy in my buildint has his ona roll away cart and just wheels it to the sink in time of need.

I have the version below but with rotary controls and love it! It sits in my bathroom. It's quite a rare thing for a college student living in dorms to have one but, I do! I run it every 2 days or so between me and my suite-mate. It holds <span style="text-decoration: underline;">4</span> place settings.

However, there is a newer version that doesn't have a window but can apparently hold <span style="text-decoration: underline;">6</span> place settings. It's slightly smaller in width but about and inch deeper. They put the controls on the door instead of having a separate side panel for them, making the interior of the machine a good 2 or 3 inches wider! This machine also has more cycles!

The New Version

I have been looking at these as well Jamie. It's the new version of the Danby/Koldfront/EdgeStar units and I think it's inline to replace them. It has a more compact pump and I believe it's a reversing main pump that also drains the machine whereas the older units (control to the right of the door) have a dedicated electric drain pump. I think the style is very attractive, but EdgeStar likes their silver color, and I prefer white. Avanti also makes the same unit, but at around $333 for white, I'm good with silver. The guts should have been under the machine all along, I'd hate to work on these though, even the older ones were a bear. I'd like to see a windowed door, but I'll take that extra space any day.

We have a Danby here at the office, similar model to GadgetGary, and its been a trooper. At least one cycle every weekday for about 5 years now. The inlet screen in the sump does need to be cleaned once every few months, and I had to reseal the window with some caulking but for a machine we got for $40, its not bad. Hooked up to cold water, and always has SaniWash on to heat the water, coffee mugs are too hot to touch when it finishes the cycle.

Chris, I used to have a machine similar to your Lemair, mine was badged as a Husqvarna although I think it was more basic than yours, with only one rocker switch. It died blowing out sparks, as there appeared to be a long term leak onto the motor, the field coils were literally disintegrating with rust!

The Danby looks very similar to the discontinued Bosch tabletop machine, so much so that I wonder if it is a modified version of that - I own one of these, badged as a Hotpoint. It's a bit noisier than full sized machines, although having no kitchen units by its side probably doesn't help, and the detergent dispenser sometimes gets held shut by tall items if you don't load it carefully. But it does do the job well, and is far preferable to hand washing!

Another vote here for the Bosch SKT5102

Fantastic machine this is what I have at home we bought it 2nd hand for our tiny kitchen. Had it 3 yrs now and it must have been about 7 yrs old when we got it but it hasnt missed a beat.

Fantastic machine bet the new version of it wont last as long!

Now that's a handsome little appliance there! I don't think we got the Bosch branded unit in the US, but it looks like the same design as the Danby units.
