STOP THE PRESSES! STOP THE PRESSES!

While showering, only moments ago, I just remembered what has to be my final vote for the all-time worst cover: Altered Images doing T.Rex's 'Jeepster'. A real stinker.

Most unrecognizable cover: Pavement (my favorite band of the '90s) doing 'The Classical' by The Fall.

Are You Experienced

I like Devo's version of Satisfaction. It's very fun. Devo did a great cover of Are You Experienced, too.

I saw the Plimsouls last night. That was pretty much a dream come true.

Mike: Oh, I'm right there with you on Devo's version of 'Satisfaction'. It's great. Don't ever recall their version of the Hendrix song. Was it a B-side or something?

Had no idea the Plimsouls were still together! You heard The Plimsouls last night and I heard a smalltown high school do 'Oklahoma'. Guess that's the difference between living in the city and living in rural Minnesota, LOL.

Yeah right.

It's always a fluke when a national act comes through town. Or one that I would care to see anyway. I usually have to travel to Baltimore or Philly or Jersey or NYC to catch a band I really want to see. I like this place a lot but it's a strange combination of city and back-woods. Or maybe that's why I like it, actually. You can be in downtown surrounded by skyscrapers and within five minutes you can be in remote woods casting a fishing pole without a soul in sight. It's an interesting place.

Devo actually had a video of Are You Experienced. It had a Jimi impersonator coming out of a coffin if I remember correctly. I forget what album it was on though.

Da da

I can't believe I found the video on youtube. I linked it below. Talk about making a song your own. It's genius. Enjoy.

Covers vs. Remakes

Well, maybe it comes down to covers versus remakes!

Covers pay homage to the original and remakes "remake" them!!

I've heard some tribute albums where different artists do songs from one band and try to imitate the original. Some put their own spin on the original. I think trying to imitate the original is the mistake they make. When a remake comes out, it's different, and can't generally be directly compared to the original. That's when you can like it for different reasons than the original, and maybe not see it as better or worse than the original!

Just my opinion!!

p.s.- I remember the only night I did karaoke, about 5 years ago, and chose My Way. The DJ asked "which version?" I looked at him and said, "you have something other than Elvis?" He just nodded and played it!

one I like better than the original:

Sugar Ray's version of "Abracadabra" over The Steve Miller Band's original 1982 version

Mike-- Apparantly the Hendrix cover was on the 'Shout' album. The last Devo album I bought was 'Oh No! It's Devo', which explains why I had no memory of it. Thanks for finding and posting the vid. It was pretty clever!

I am one of probably about ten people on this planet who liked U2's redux of "Dancing Barefoot".....blew me away.
