I've seen "vehicle" spelled "vechile" no less than six times in one ad - the guy was looking to buy junk cars, or junk vechiles as he called them.

 

And I'll second, third, fourth, the comments about photos. If you are going to the trouble of listing an ad on the internet, post a photo <span style="text-decoration: underline;">AND</span> an e-mail contact. If I have a question I don't want to spend long distance fees calling you.

And don't forget that if you're looking for something specific that has a set number of 'drawers,' search 'draws,' as a number of auctioneers, dealers, and lay people not only sometimes make this as a mistake, but think it's actually correct!

Of course it goes without saying (though I will) that if you're looking for something 'collectible,' search 'collectable.'

Bedroom Suite, Living Room Suite, etc (pronounced "sweet") is often misstated as bedroom suit (as in suit of clothes) both in writing and verbally.

In the Midwest (or at least in Ohio, where I grew up), you often--unbelievably-- even hear advertisers say suit instead of suite on TV and the radio

As in, "this bedroom suit is on sale for $1200" instead of "this bedroom suite is on sale for $1200." Even worse, is when they spell it right, suite, but say it wrong as suit.

Bill the radio star

One of the swelled heads I graduated high school with got into his dream job of radio after he graduated college. A few years ago he had an ad to read on air for a local acoustic ceiling cleaning service. The business had the clever name of "Coustic Glo". Bill, in his best Official Radio Star voice announced "when you need you ceilings cleaned, just call Cow Stick Glow".

 

My favorite Craigslist and Ebay ads are for Magnavox stereos, radios, whatever, and the picture in the ad is Motorola, because you know the big stylized M they put on their sets means it's a Magnavox. And the "stereo" is usually something from the '40s, long before they came out. The brainiacs in Goodwill on the rich side of town put out furniture described as "brown chester draws" "begie sofa" and such like.

A Centurion "Sterio". You would think someone would proof their ad before posting--especially the Title! Maybe they have a Spanish accent and they think stereo is sterio.

Yeah, I saw that it's a "sterio", and the only Centurion I recall is the Buick Centurion, which I would rather have LOL . When I went nuts one day and bought another Magnavox console from St. Vincent de Pauls a couple years back, the Latino lady in the store had it marked "Estereo" which I think means Stereo in Spanish . Or French
