This is my parents' machine bought in 1996. It still works perfectly although has had lots of maintenance including: many brush replacements, motor bearing replacements, door lock repair, belt and suspension replacements, drum bearing replacement, water inlet solenoid valve replacement, drum rubber replacement.

It was used extensively over the years by my mum, almost every day and sometimes with very heavy loads, most commonly on the cottons 60 degree cycle (to make maximum use of hot water stored in a cylinder in the house - we'd always run the hot tap first to flush out the cold in the pluming) but with the temperature reduced to 40 or 30.

The commutator has been repaired and replaced with spares repeatedly over the years but we have run out of spares and the machine doesn't spin as well. The outer casing has become rusty. My parents decided to get a new machine about 6 months ago but this old one, plummed in for a while but no longer used is going to the tip soon.

I enjoyed watching it when I was younger and will be sad to see it go! It has a loud ticking noise when the program advances. During the cotton final spin, it slowly builds up, starting at around 500 RPM, then an intermediate speed for about 15 seconds then up to 1000 RPM. The synthetic and woolen final spin carries out the same sequence but continues spinning for only a short time at 1000 RPM.

I still have mine, 17064E. She has 4 buttons: Wash Rinse Hold, Super Wash, Slow Spin and On/Off. She has gone through a lot of brushes, too. Now she only fills with hot wash water, but heats like a champ and looks like new.

Thank you for the links, Launderess and Happy New Year

She fills just fine for rinses so Jeff thinks it is in the timer. It does not matter because the cold tub pulls a lot of heat out of the first fill. If I do not purge the hot water line, the wash water is just warm and then the machine heats the water to the selected temperature. We have a Creda parts man in Texas who has the motor brushes we buy, but I do not use the machine much anymore because she is quite old even though she looks like new.

Good for you!

Am glad you've got things sorted.

Big Bertha (our Miele W1070) is about from same era and seems set to outlive one.

Creda joined Asko, Bosch and Miele in launching "compact" European laundry appliances to USA back in the day. IIRC of them all consumer testing groups stated Creda units required most repairs.

Creda was part of TI Group then sold to GEC (General Electric Company). Hotpoint was part of General Domestic Appliances (GDA) a subsidiary of GEC.

GEC was restructured into Marconi plc. from which Indesit Company (then called Merloni Elettrodomestici) took over and then Indesit was bought out by Hotpoint on 21 December 2001.

Whirlpool then bought major stake in Hotpoint and Indesit (UK only IIRC), while Electrolux wanted to purchase balance. Regulators objected so Haier got their mitts on Hotpoint brand when they bought GE appliances back in 2016.

Thus yes, for a very long time Creda laundry appliances were Hotpoint (or maybe Hotpoint-Ariston) or Indesit under the bonnet.
