Crosley Mini Washer/Dryer set

I picked up a Crosley W/D set from freecycle this weekend, I had no idea they still made appliances. It sort of works as it fills, agitates, goes into spin mode, electric drain pump does it's thing but no spin, the solenoid kicks in and releases the brake but the motor won't run. Anyone have any experience with these units?

Ok, looks like I figured this one out on my own! The motor works fine in spin mode if I manually apply power to one lead, (something in the microprocessor control must be shot). This type of machine is totally new to me, it uses an electronic wig wag! There are two triacs that are switched back and forth to make the motor go both directions in agitate. For spin, only one is switched on for the motor rotation. A third separate one is used only for the brake and drain pump motor.
Kinda neat, but I am sure that board is very expensive to replace...

This is sourced from Whirlpool - their "World Washer" made for many markets worldwide. Not sure on the price of the board for this washer, can you solder in a new triac onto the board?

When set to spin, there is a very long drain period - over four minutes I think - just to be sure you wait long enough for it to try on it's own.

Thanks for the info! So it really is a Whirlpool then? When I enter the model number(BYCCW5294W0) in the appliance parts website it comes up as an error. Maybe Whirlpool has something.
Actually, the triacs are good. for some reason the one used for spin is not being triggered.

Doh! Looks like I messed up on this one! I see that I have a lot to learn about these newer machines. Thanks gansky for letting me know about the delay, it works fine if I just leave it alone to do it's thing. I wasn't waiting the 4 minutes it takes to go into spin!
Only problem I see now is when the tub fills up, the springs seem to give way, and it drops about 3" to nearly the end of it's travel, possible weak springs?

Nope, the springs are fine. I have one of these, it is the first washer i ever got. The tub falls when it get's full, it takes forever to spin, and if the machine stops so hard from spin that the cabinet spins around, it's still fine. lol

Thanks Pulsator for letting me know on that one! I ran a load through it last night and all went well. The electronics on it are kinda neat to see functioning at first, but I still prefer my 1970 Imperial Mark XII in all it's woodgrain glory!

4 minutes to spin? ouch. That's crazy. So you're sitting in a neutral drain for that long. My little Lady Kenmore also used two timer increments (4 minutes) for the drain. Drove me crazy. BUT that looks like a fun lil' machine anyway.

World Washer

Was a great machine and workhorse made under many names, even GE, but Whirlpool at the end stopped production in Mexico.

TOO BAD, NEW machine is not of same quality standards.

Now their NEW World Washer is made in Brazil, it has more electronics, stainless steel tub, and is still sourced out to GE, Kenmore, and many more brands.

The last production of your type machine received the Stepped Spin like that found in Whirlpool's Premium Product "KitchenAid".

I just got one of these machines for free from craigslist. Its badged as a Whirlpool. Works really well for the workshop laundry - car cleaning rags, towels from the spa, things like that. I am surprised at how abrupt the action is. I was a little dissapointed to see its all digital, and that you can't even see the fill flume. Neverthleless, its a great machine, gets the load much cleaner than the Haier, and hey, it was free!

Drewz, I noticed my washer had that "stepped spin" program last night when in operation. Heck, for a little cheapo it has some nice features!
The dryer is pretty good as well, but no electronics as far as the timer. I did notice a moisture sensor though, and a small pc board at the top mounted near the drum.
