This is the little play toy we picked up this past Saturday afternoon at an estate sale. I remember these Hotpoint one dial bottom of the line models so well as a kid. Every builder put these into new NJ houses and Florida condos back in the early 70s.

Just had to hear it run again, although needs a good cleaning it works perfectly. Its loudly washing dishes in the basement as we speak.

The blue and white speckled porcelain is delicious. Check out the water level at the bottom of the tank, now that's a dishwasher.

The incoming fill water sprays out of this fabulous flume and the water stream rides across the entire ceiling of the dw.

Great find Robert, so glad you brought it home to play with. I bet it does a fantastic job. This might be a good machine to keep just to wash vacuum parts in!!

This is the very Exact first dishwasher we had. Also portable.
Couldn't be more identical. Cool machine cleaned decently but noisey. Best of Luck with it.

I too remember a very noisy dishwasher which I used in Canada (Toronto) back in 1988. My memories are hazy as I was only 12, but it was also a single dial Hotpoint. Somehow I remember the dial had two start positions - regular and short cycle, and I was told to `always use short'!

The other dishwasher I used in '88 was an all push button Maytag. I remember a beige coloured bank of buttons against a darker background. The cycle used most often was called `Energy Save' or similar.

When my Dad built his house in 1975, the builder installed that machine. Noisey as all get out, cleaned well, and lasted 20 some odd years. I believe I've heard HotPoints and GE's from this era referred to as the "Cement Mixer" Series.

Lotta fun. enjoy. whisper clean is kind of an oximoron. Loud, oh yeah. Cleaning, fair, but then remember I still expected quite a bit from these machines. If this wre a built-in, it definitely would not be considered BOL because of the rinse-aid dispenser and the rinse only and wash-dry cycle buttons. This may have been about the time this machine was made, but does this have the continuously running pump with the drain solenoid (kind of like a KitchenAid) or does this pause and reverse motor to drain. If it's the later, then it cannot at all be considered a GE clone because by this time, GE was using the continuously running pump and drain solenoid. However, in the strictest definition, it could still be considered a GE clone because I"m sure these were similar to the motors used in GE's first front-load dishwasher with the reversing pump for draining?

No if this machine was a GE clone, I would have passed it right on by. Its a Hotpoint design, which I'm pretty sure was made at the original Chicago Hotpoint factory where they made the solid basket Hotpoint washers.

It sure has a large capacity compared to what I'm used to, albeit I wonder if they having drinks they day they came up with the "whisper clean" saying. lol

i had not seen one of those till last year on this site when one just like your's was advertised here from san diego.

i bought it and had jim ship it, it looks exactly like the one you just found.

i remember them well as a teen, it was the first dishwasher i ever worked on. that big "UFO" looking pump and black spray arm. some of them even had a half spray arm for the top rack instead of that little spray ball.

and yes, i remember that in the mid seventees it seemed like every apartment i was in had one of those little hotpoints!

the one i bought last year has hardly been used, looks like new. actually your's looks to be in great shape as well from the pics. replacement parts are no where to be found (as yet).

i'm glad to see there are a couple still around. i was afraid they were all gone till i found mine. who knows, we might have the last two!

if you ever want to sell it i would definately buy it from you. these old hotpoints bring back a lot of memories for me and even though i have one i would make room for another!
