Over the weekend I saw a Macy's ad featuring Cuisinart Mixers. It's the same planetary action as a Kitchen Aid and has the tilting head design of the smaller KA's but the the smallest mixing bowl appears to be 5.5 quarts and the largest is I believe a whopping 8 quarts. Does anyone know much about these? I'm not in the market, my 15 year-old KA Ultra-Power serves my purposes fine, but am wondering if Cuisinart might cut into KA's market share with these models. They do look intriguing.

They are rebadged Kenwood mixers as are the Viking and the Sears Elite. Kenwood is now owned by DeLonghi. Anyhoo, they, at least the veritable old vintage Kenwoods are very good mixers and came with a plethora of attachments. Kenwood was a British company so I guess it's an Italian company.

Ahhhh, the old rebadging routine. Why am I not surprised? I did have a fleeting Kenwood moment when I first saw the Cuisinarts but was giving them the benefit of the doubt. So much for that practice.

I'm not sure where they are made though. The old Kenwoods were of course made in the UK, whether that's still the case I dunno and if it would be the same for all the rebadged stuff since deLonghi took over.

I laughed my a** off

in the library this afternoon.

The December Fine Cooking magazine has an advertorial about the "Cuisinart" stand mixer. The piece is a quarter page with photo near the front.

I am sooo tempted to write them and say "Duh, this is a re-badged Kenwood!" But, I won't.

Incidentally, I think "Fine Cooking" is considerably better than "Bon Appetit," and somewhat better than "Gourmet," but not as good as "Cooks Illustrated."

Lawrence, interesting that you should mention the various magazines. I was just advising my partner the other day that I thought "Cooks Illustrated" would be the best choice for a food/cooking magazine. I already subscribe to "Saveur" and have every issue since Vol I #1 but that mag is more about food than the actual cooking of it, although it does have its share of recipes.

Ralph--

I really have grown to love "Cooks Illustrated," even though they can get somewhat-to-very smug about how they go through their recipe development process, but mercy....I have never, ever, had a recipe from "Cooks Illustrated" fail!

I am a good cook, but have run across some insufficiently tested recipes in some of the other "cough cough <strike>Bon Appetit</strike> cough cough" magazines.

I have seen the Cuisinart machines in person at Bed Bath and beyond out my way-they are sort of nice but it is just another rebadged Kenwood-probably made to Cuisinarts design.I have a Kenwood mixers under DeLonghi,Viking, and Rival.BB&B also had the attachments-keeping this in mind-they should fit the machines I have.
