Current detergents

Hi all,

I’ve not seen a detergent thread in a while so thought I’d start one.

Here is my current stash. From left to right:

Neutral scent free colour liquid
ECOS magnolia and lily

As you can probably tell, I like my eco detergents. The Super Croix and Le Chat were holiday treats from Mauritius to try out.

I really have struggled to find a good eco powder though. I use liquids for coloureds, the Ecozone being my favourite. I’ve found some really good eco liquids. However the powders haven’t been as good. I really liked Bio-D powder until they changed the formula. So I shall have to keep experimenting with powders. The Acdo is the highest performing of the more eco friendly detergents but still doesn’t quite do as well as some of the more mainstream powders.

My current detergents and softeners

Here’s a list of detergents :
Just finished a box of vanish oxi action pink one
Surf tropical lily ylang ylang capsules/liquitabs they didn’t clean tough stains too well it doesn’t get that sudsy but it rinses out alright
Bold2in1 lavender and camomile pods they get sudsy and don’t rinse out that well, still some suds before the final rinse they smell nice and clean alright
Daz powder it gets sudsy with smaller loads / doesn’t suds up with bigger loads it cleans satisfactory to good, however it whips up suds during the rinses but surprisingly doing some recent loads they smelt really amazingly well rinsed and could smell very little of it after the wash cycle. I am currently doing 2 loads with Daz, mixed darks load in the ultima on cottons 40 and it on rinse hold and I’m washing whites on boilwash in bosch (with the help of bicarbonate of soda for brightening whites). I think they will come out well rinsed.

I have greatly simplified my laundry detergent process.

For most loads in the Neptune front loader, an ounce or two of pure STPP powder. Followed by enough ultra liquid non-scented detergent (like Kirkland or All), enough to produce a very light amount of sudsing. From trial and error I've found this produces the least amount of residual sudsing and the softest bath towels. When I switched to this method, over last summer, I found that if I added only the STPP, the laundry would produce suds all on its own, from detergent left in the fabric from the previous washing(s). Once this residual detergent was eliminated by the STPP (sometimes requiring more than one wash!), the results got a lot better, most noticeably in softer bath towells and undergarments. I usually add a bit of fabric softener, but just a splash, much less than "recommended". Much less than an ounce per load. It all seems to work out well.
