Current Maytag MVWP586GW. Anyone bought one recently ?

I asked this question because I bought one in November 2023. Used it for a couple of months and then sold it.

There seemed to be a glitch in that model. If you opened the lid during the rinse fill it wouldn't fill up to say High or Deep water setting. Did that to me several times.

If you didn't interrupt it, it would fill to whatever you set the level at.

My question is does anybody know if there was a revision made to that machine at all since it's release ?

Was this a glitch? Has anybody experienced what I'm talking about with that model ?

I've been thinking about getting it again. Was a pretty decent current machine as far as wash action and spinning out.

I've heard that model has multiple issues, not just the one you're referring to. It seems to be known for internal failures unfortunately. But you know reviews only tell part of the story.

That’s a shame. When I went to the Maytag website recently I noticed it said the “commercial” was temporarily of stock. It seems a hard model to find anyway. I don’t see it displayed even in some mom and Pop stores anymore. Something is up at Whirlpool. It’s a shame to see a once great company lose their business to the likes of LG or Samsung. Real shame.

I was interested in getting one of their new front loaders. They look nice and they finally fixed the door and detergent dispenser from colliding with each other. I don’t know if they got rid of the recirculation spray or not. I live in a mobile home so I don’t know how vibration would be with it.

Unfortunately, there are no videos of their current front load machines. I would love to hear a report on one. If I did get one, I would be sure to film it.

Well, current Maytag front loaders still have recirculation. Saw their new Pet Pro FLer video recently on YT.

That's cool Bob. What I find odd is why do they put a clean trap on the whirlpools and yet they didn't update that for the Maytag? Weird.

I've seen the Maytag you're talking about in stores. One of the baffles is for the pet pro filter

I was just in Lowes tonight and if I was in the market for a new top loader I would probably go for a GE.

It's the only modern machine that has a water level control on it and an effective two-piece dual action agitator.

The capacity is also huge. Better able to handle my twin size comforter.

I'm not going to put myself in the hole for a Speed Queen. I don't want to pay off any credit cards. Been there done that.

If Bosch was looking to buy Whirlpool,it must mean Whirlpool is in bad shape.

IF Bosch bought Whirlpool it would suck to see Whirlpool lose their design to Bosch. I hope that doesn't come to pass.

Startup state issue

I have a MVWP586GW. The biggest issue I have with it, which others online have seen as well, is what I'd call a "startup state issue". If you press the switch to turn it on then, seemingly, press it again too quickly, all lights go off, it sits for a bit, then starts a low-fill, "default" cycle of some kind. It appears that in this mode it doesn't read the knob settings correctly since it won't Deep Fill even if that's selected.

Video link below for one example (not mine) of what this odd startup state issue looks like.

The only workaround I've found is to press-hold the startup button to cancel this state and try again, until the first two LEDs illuminate. At that point it fills and operates as specified by the control settings.

It would be great if Maytag had a service bulletin or other acknowledgment of the issue, since mine is under warranty for several more years. I'd love to get the control board or whatever else is out of whack replaced during that time since, other than this, the washer runs and cleans great!

Ugh, my washer is starting to act up so I’ve been researching a new one and heard the Maytag Commercial Grade was a good choice, looks like I may have to keep looking. I’ve even read lots of negative stuff about speed queen, sadly. Are there any good options left?

This is very basic but works very well. Had this machine for a couple of years. Whirlpool non vended CAE2795FQ commercial washer.

By the way I didn't fet rid of it because of any problems. I sold it for room for other machines I collect.

No top loader ever built

Will handle a king size comforter, unless it’s very thin.

You need a full-size front load washer to wash things like this, there’s not a single top load washer on the market today that I would recommend as being your best overall washing machine. Many current top loaders are good for certain types of loads, but if you’re going to have one, you really need a full size front loader also to wash pillows , comforters, winter coats, etc.

If you only have money in room for one washing machine, just get a great front load washer, the Speed Queen is obviously one of the best. You could also get a whirlpool or Maytag would be your next best choices, but after that, you really could get most anything from Electrolux GELG Samsung they all do a pretty decent job with varying degrees of reliability issues And service problems.

I have the older version of the MT mentioned...

I have been able to wash a queen-size and queen/full quilts (thinner and less fluffy than comforters) in the Maytag 575 (older version w/o the water level switch) or the Speed Queen TC5. Anything more than that probably will not fit--the thin King size bedspread with a thin lining would not (was washing for someone else). The key is to make sure the item has enough room to turn over freely or the agitator could damage fabric. I used the delicate cycle for mine.

I switched from comforters to quilts and layers a long time ago because it was an option I had. Convenience and being able to wash bedding as needed is important especially if one has kids or pets.

If washing this comforter determines the washing machine you get, a front load is really your only option. There are top loads that state a larger capacity, but they don't fill with enough water or agitate to actually be able to utilize that capacity. Also, the larger capacity top loads don't work as well as the Maytag for any other load but maybe small ones with small items (just my opinion).

If washing that comforter is an occasional task and you definitely like the Maytag for everything else or need a top load for whatever reason, I like the large commercial washers at the laundry mat designed for rugs or bulky items. They even give it a bit more room.
