Ok so my dad wants a new front loader. He is looking at a Whirlpool Duet Sport because what do you know it's the cheapest. Jamie knows that this would be my worst nightmare because then BOTH of my parents would have a BOL boring Duet. :( I wanna talk him into a Speed Queen FL... has anybody had any experience with these? What do you think? I know alot of people here in Modern gush all over SQ, please don't. Give me reasons why I should disregard Consumer Reports rating it near the bottom of all washers (contrary to most people around here, my Dad and I use CR and actually think they have some worth).

I have no experience with any front loader.

But other bitter experience has taught me that any time I'm faced with a person who plans to buy something because it's the cheapest available product will mean that I will be in for a long fight to have them even CONSIDER anything better let alone BUY IT. When that person wanting cheap is your parent, who may or may not have trouble remembering you have long since grown up...well, it can become a total nightmare.

I have mixed feelings about Consumer Reports. I don't trust them enough that I'd buy on their word alone...but I don't distrust them, and currently have a better opinion than I have had. In this case, I'd read what they've written, and see why they don't like SQ. Then, I'd consider whether or not what they have to say matters to me.

LoL,

I have the Asko XXL's and i know there Pricy, but work very well.. But the controls can be a tad hard to deciper..

Jamie has had great things to say about his very affordable LG front-loader. Do you have an LG dealer in the area? If so, check them out. Those older-style GE are rated high by CR, but I don't know anyone who has one, so no first-hand information about them.

Good luck, Lebron! Good sons don't let parents get boring washers, LOL!

Do not, Do Not, Do NOT

Under any circumstances, let him buy a Frigidaire FL machine.

A day doesn't go by when I use my Affinity pair and wish I still had my Duet HT's instead. There is no contest.

I can't speak to the "Sport" model issue, but the HT series is definitely worth the extra money.

Just don't let the cheap price point on Frigidaires hook him. You get what you pay for. If the footprint of the machines is an issue, your dad may not be able to go for the large Duets, but just make sure he doesn't end up with Frigidaires for that reason. I made that mistake and have been regretting it for over a year now.

If he wants an FL washer, maybe you should get a bolt-down B

I just ADORE my LG washer, however, I would probably trade it in for an SQ! GO FOR THE SQ!!! Tell him the Duet Sport is a POS!
