Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Same for about three years now....

Sears Ultra Plus orange box.

As I said yesterday, I am faithful to my laundry detergent, but not to my dishwasher detergent.

Ariel Oxianillos powder for all laundry, towels, and sheets.

Super cheap Sun Burst liquid for rags and rugs.

Sears Ultra Plus for the Really Dirty Stuff....

Since Lawrence gave it a glowing review a while back on a thread I posted, I haven't been without it. Wonderful stuff and cheap.

I use my own soap flakes for the lighter stuff and delicates. I had a surplus of oil I needed to use up before it went bad, and laundry soap is better than landfill.

Persil Bio powder for whites - love the fragrance and superb stain removal
Waitrose Essential colour powder - was the cheapest!

Paul aka hoovermatic,

Has Persil changed the scent of its bio powder lately? Last batch I had 18 months or so ago wasnt particularly nice and left everything smelling musty.

If its changed I might be tempted to try it.

I Thought i would try out Tesco value powder for a change i have to say its a very good powder & at £1.99 for 30 washes you carn't go wrong.

Persil scent

I don't know if the fragrance has changed from 18 months ago because it is a few years since I used it, being a dyed in the wool Ariel user. I bought a big box of it because it was reduced to £6 from £12 and am really impressed with it. I stopped using Ariel powder because the smell, in my opinion, was vile.

Purex Complete with Zout stain remover

NOT quite my daily driver but I have been trying this on select very dirty white loads for the past 3 weeks and am having success.

This is formulated for both top and FL, doesn't create a lot of foam and rinses very well. This week I used it on a load of soiled dog blankets and also my dog had a poop accident on my white bathroom rugs and the dried on stains were completely removed using Purex complete with Z.. in a warm water wash with 2 rinses. Last few weeks I have washed my white under wear and sock loads with this and the results have been very good.

Who Was It?

Jerrod, I'm going to have to try the Purex with Zout. I hope I get the same results with my whites as you did.

Now, for the Subject question. WHAT tip columnist promoted Purex and Zout at one time for doing laundry? If I remember correctly, I believe her face was on Zout labels with "Rcommended by (person)". I?m quite sure it wasn't Heloise, but I'm leaning more toward "the Queen Of Clean" (Linda Cobb). But in viewing her website she's now promoting Vaska laundry products. Also if she was the one I'm thinking of, she was quite heavy at one time, but has dropped a tremendous amount of weight, and now looks sensational on her website.

So, does anyone know who it might be if not the two I mentioned?

I am more than reasonably certain it was Linda Cobb,

"The Queen of Clean."

Heloise never, or almost never endorses products. With her column being in almost every newspaper in the United States, and what she inherited from her Mother, the original Heloise......

I have quite a few 'daily' detergents as i try to use something a bit different from my stash every time so it runs down.

My ultimate daily drivers are Dynamo Liquid, Napisan Oxi Action, Fluffy Summer Breeze and a Dettol Sanitizing Laundry Rinse - i work with disabled people so its best to keep everything as germ free as possible.

The i have a range of other kinda daily ones, I use the Ariel Color tablets on my colors all the time though. The Gain i got sent by Polkanut, beautiful scent and I am trying to ration it but its just a bit irresistable. The Tide i can't use too much as it is non HE and the Indesit just doesn't cope very well if you use a drop too much.
The Gain fabric softener is amazing, very light but delicious scent.
The Lenor is a regular favourite of mine although this scent is a tad too tangy for my liking.
The Fab is the one the housemates use, not letting them anywhere near my stash haha

And in the dryer, whenever we use it, i grabbed some Nice n Fluffy dryer sheets to use from the British shop, don't do much to be honest but we only use the dryer to dry Socks, Undies and Tea Towels, so no big deal.

We have a Fisher and Paykel reversing wall mount dryer, we keep it outside to keep the heat out of the house.

That's about it for me haha

I have been loving Clorox Greenworks (unscented) for a few weeks now. Seems to tackle any stain my kids can throw at it. I also like it does not contain optical brighteners.

Also use Vaska for sheets, towels and delicates - love that stuff.

I have been tempted lately by the Purex with Zout ... may have to try it.

depends on what I am washing...

general rundown: Whites- Ultra Tide Plus bleach powder HE, Colors- Non HE Cheer powder, or Kirkland Perfume and Dye free HE liquid, Darks- Tide Cold water Liquid.
*subject to change at a moments notice*
I am curious to try some of Sears Orange box stuff, that I hear so much about on here, but I have Alot of other Detergents, Non-HE stuff Im am attempting to use up first, (which is different varieties of Gain Powder.)

Two loads today ... uh, well, yesterday ... Wisk HE Stain Spectrum liquid. STPP added. Whites load with oxybleach. Both with Snuggle softener of some blueish-ilk bottle. An old towel in the non-whites load was quite grungy, used outdoors several months for the occasional quick wipe-up after yard work and such. Came amazingly clean out of the Neppy TL on Normal cycle Warm/Heavy soil.

I like how Wisk works but my kids broke out from it. My favorite is the old Wisk powder from the early '90s.

Amy:

I was also a big fan of Wisk powder. I found it was equal (if not better) to Tide, Cheer and all the other big name brands at that time. I was sorry to see it disappear from store shelves.

The Triple-Enzyme Purex with Zout (I've tried the unscented) works very well, although I'm not much of a liquid person. The enzymes are protease, amylase and mannanase, by the way.

I'm fascinated by the Dynamo liquid in Matty's post. It has phosphates! I don't recall a US liquid detergent that had phosphates even before some areas started banning them.
