You can hear if
the damper moves or not usually.It's a small stepper motor similar to those used in automotive clinmate control selector ducts. They commonly fail on later Fridgidaire brand SXS models. If the evaporator is iced up, and ice forms in the fridge side, the damper may bind.
If the temp. sensors are faulty, or the control board, those could be the cause as well. However, liner sensors are not king, the liner protection mode is, so it doesn't crack from expansion/contraction. Thusly, the control board can trigger a defrost cycle even though the sensors say the fridge is too warm if the feezer needs it. So, in addition to, the defrost heater may be bad causing icing.
You need a multimeter to test everything.
