I thought that I would share a few pics of the Danby Portable Dishwasher that a couple of friends of mine got. They love this machine and called her Daisy. They seem to name all the appliances that they have.

Dishwasher

So far they love this machine. It does clean very well and what impresses me is the fact that it does have power. I opened the door during the wash cycle and couldnt believe how much water was moving thru the arms ...they were like tight jets scouring the dishes and it uses very little water. They bought the dishwasher at Best Buy for $325 which I thought was a deal.here is a pic of the middle arm.

Mike, thanks for the pix. I'm assuming they don't pre-rinse. Or, you've properly instructed them on dishwasher load preparation. Those wash arms do remind me of old KA and Waste King style arms.

Bobload

Actually if I would have loaded that i would have been able to put more into it Bob. They do not pre rinse per my instructions and they use the ever wonderful Cascade 2 in 1 dishpacs with Dawn. Whats ironic is the fact that this dishwasher has a built in water softener. I told them that I would go to a dealer here that sells the Somat salt for dishwashers and fill it for them. And you can also set it to the water hardness as well. They live in Stoneham MA so I dont know if they have hard water or not. Right now I have them set up with rinse aid and that seems to do the trick. i loaded this machine up tonight and you know I am surprised at what it can hold. Plus the top rack can come down to a lower lever to put taller items in it. When they got it they had cup racks on each side that were useless since you couldnt put anything really on them except for long utensils or knives. So I removed them and put them away. I told them if they needed them on how reinstall them. The filter is 4 parts the top micro filter the course drain filter and 2 filters in the cone area to catch ultrafine particles. It is easy to clean too. The dishwasher is kinda quiet and it washes well. It has a sensor system to check the water temp and it will heat the water to where it needs to be at. The plus feature is the water heating and the rabbit button is to make the cycle be a tad faster. It also has a push to start button as well. In a nutshell a good machine and well made...surprising for a China built machine.

Danby Didhwasher

I have had mine for a year now and think that is the best DW that I have had in a long time.Very well made and does do a very good job. I use the Wall Mart brand detergent with enzimes in it and never have dirty dishes out of the machine.
I bought mine on line from Madison Appliences in madison WI and shipped to CA at no extra cost to me. Only thing I have had happen is one of the wheels kept falling off. I glued it on with liquid nails and not have had a problem. When I sell my home ITS NOT STAYING I will take it to my new one.

Cycle time

Well the cycle time using the heavy cycle I would say is alittle under 2 hours...but that all depends on how hot the water is. They have used the next cycle down and they got good results with it. I dont now how long that one is...I think its 30 mins less.

Is Daisy Danby by any chance related to Mechanical Mandy?

What a beautiful machine. Coworker bought the Danby 18" dw 3 years ago and now the motor needs to be replaced. Cost for replacing the motor is about what y'all paid new. A very nice thing about these machines, aside from those tiny holes, is that they did not extend the tank as deeply front to back as the 18 inch machines made by D&M. With the wash arm length limited by the 18" width of the machine, the deeper tank and larger racks left some sorta dead zones at the front and rear where the wash arm did not reach. This machine's wash arm under the top rack sure beats the pop up tower in the early ones. I just hope those of you who own a Danby will have better motor reliability than the person in my office.

The best way of dealing with dishwasher dimensions that are rectangular rather than square is the twisted blade impeller of the James and Ling Temco.

Erk... looks the same as the cheap Naiko made dishwashers we get here in the UK badged for Hoover, Beko, Indesit, Matsui, Pro Line... basically the cheapest of the cheap you can get and aren't too reliable or well built compared to other dishwashers sold here... apparently they can be horrors to find parts for at least in the UK.

Dishwasher

I just got back from a friend who got the 18" GE built in dishwasher. The interior is very very much the same as this model. Only one dial and a dryer on / off button. He isnt a big dishwasher person but we did run it on a rinse and hold cycle. It is a bit noisy, but I still like this design better than the WCI series because of lack of the tower. I like the SS and if I had to have a 18" model I would get this one or the Danby. I would like to find out the long term repair history.
