DE306 Questions

Dave has the dryer apart right now, but we have two questions before it can be re-assembled. This one has had a slightly tougher life, in addition to 4 more years of service, and consequently has a couple of issues that the DE806 didn't have.

Should the felt seal at the rear of the drum be glued to anything or is it supposed to float?

Also, the fiber washers were pretty torn up. Where should the fiber washers go and how many of them should there be in each location? I don't want to go through all of the work and discover that it was wrong, and have to take the whole thing apart again!

I'm no expert...

But I did a recon job on a DE306 that I am now using as the 'daily driver'...
The felt seal in the rear does not seem to need to be glued down - the one on mine was still moving, so I left it like that.
Not sure about the fibre washers, though... Would you happen to have a picture?? I don't recall seeing anything like that on mine...

Fiber Washers

If I recall correctly, the fiber washers go behind the impeller and in front of the nylon spacer. Then the big snap ring and after that another fiber washer. You want enough fiber washers to give proper spacing to prevent drift on the drum shaft so the fan doesn't rub it's housing and drum stays in place. No drift or binding. Just the proper spacing so everything turns easily but doesn't oscillate. Oil the drum bearings, wicking, and shaft well with turbine oil. The impeller should spin freely on the shaft, but not drag its housing. There shouldn't be any slop between the drum and its bearings. If there is, that's not good news. I think that's all. Maybe more info than you wanted. If I'm wrong, other people please correct me.
