I have a chance to buy a DE606 for $90.00. The porcelain top isn't in bad shape, but it would have to be buffed out to be usable. The drum turns and is clean on the inside, the filter parts are all there, the door is in good shape and the door switch seems to work well.

I guess it's a series 2. It has the aluminum dial and the gold strip on the control panel.

I wonder if I should get it for when I find my DE806 series 0 or 1 to use for parts or would I be wasting my money? The cabinet is in fairly good condition and there doesn't appear to be much rust. Are most of the internal parts interchangeable?

The schematic is missing off of the back of the control panel cover. Would the electronic dryness controls be compatible? Would the newer dryness control be more reliable? Would any other parts in it be worth having to work on and older 806? I have two new belts coming for the dryer. Being optimistic.

Thanks,

B.

Yes Andy.... didn't YOU know on the DE806 dryer Maytag offered a rarely seen "spray rinse" option?

DE606 versus DE806

They barely share anything----606 is Halo of Heat, with the small drum and the filter and blower at the back of the drum, and the heating coils at the front surrounding the drum.
The 806 is Stream of Heat, noticeably larger drum, heating element in a tube at the lower right side, blower in the lower left front corner, filter at the bottom of the door. I can't imagine interchangeable parts.

The front panel of the cabinet is model specific with very different size doors, etc. Maybe the back and 2 sides and top of the cabinet are interchangeable.

Also 606 has simply one center dial, where the 806 console needs the opening for 4 buttons in one hole.

Also the base should be very different. 2 different machines for sure, but both match up with all the washers from about 66 or so to 79 or 80.

Wait a sec!

The 06 dryers are all Halo of Heat. They switched to the Stream of Heat with the 08 series in 1975. The older A806 washers were paired with DE/DG806 dryers which were HoH, but the series 2 A806 washers were paired with DE/DG808 dryers.

Personally, I prefer using and repairing the HoH style,
Dave

Would the electronic dryness controls be compatible?

Besides the early and late model electronic control units, and the wire wound/wire strip baffles, they're the same.

I transposed numbers

When I read and when I thought and when I answered, the perfect trio!

You folks are all correct----I went and looked at all my 'Tag dryers----anything in the DE?06 series will be over 90% interchangeable in the entire 06 series.

It ain't the first time the 806's versus 608's got me befuddled, sorry. At least I usually know a dryer from a washer, that helps.

Nice how I can delete my entire wrong paragraph up above, eh?

Thanks for the corrections, I just mixed up the numbers and described two entirely different series from my basement.

Parting out a DE606

Yes Brain I would grab the DE606 and keep any electrical and mechanical parts to keep your other DE806 going in the future. If you [ or another AW collector ]  doesn't buy this dryer it will just get junked, so you shouldn't feel bad about parting it out and junking the rest. Very few people will use a dryer this old for long, and without a good refurbishing it will not run long and just get junked.
