Hi all,
I'm working on my very first dryer repair! I'm new to this forum, but the folks here seem pretty sage...

The dryer in question is an LDE712 (Series 02).
SN is 020213 TA

It's been in my Mom's basement for a real long time.
I put some clothes in to dry at night a week or so ago. In the morning it was still running, having not turned off, and it was not producing heat.

There was a schematic and wiring diagram with the machine, and I was able to find that the heating element had opened.
I ordered and replaced the whole heating assembly, which was mostly straight-forward.
Fitting the not-quite-round-cylindrical sheet metal assembly back into the dryer was fiddly.

Anyway, the dryer now runs and produces heat. However, it does not stop unless the door is opened.

I can see that the timer counts down when I set a timed cycle.
The dryer does NOT stop when the timer cycle ends.
The heat seems to still be on at the end of the cycle, as well (I suppose I could be wrong about this, but I don't think I am).
The bell never chimes.

(all of this goes a long way to explaining why the heating coil opened, I suppose)

In any case, the "Control Switch" (the one with the start button attached) seems pretty sticky.

I have a few questions:
  1. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO FIND A SERVICE MANUAL FOR THIS THING
  2. Is an LDE712 similar to a DE712? And when was it made? I can see "Maytag Repair Master" manuals on eBay, but not sure if they would cover this machine
  3. What does anyone recommend for next steps?
    1. I am going to proceed by checking to see if the chime solenoid is open, and/or by pulling the little phenolic lever that it actuates on the "Control Switch" manually when the timed cycle ends.
    2. I'm pretty handy with electronics, I can also take a look at the PCB labeled "EC" in the schematic.
    3. I suppose I could measure the temperature of the air exiting the dryer and see if the temperature is cycling correctly, if that would teach me anything.
I have a feeling like this is a rabbit hole, but fixing it would make my mom happy, and it beats watching TV.

Thanks in advance!
Todd
