Thanks to the advice which I received, I replaced the control switch and chime actuator and now the dryer shuts off. I have a new problem with it. The clothes are coming out of it with what appear to be grease streaks. They do NOT wash out. I checked the drum and there is no grease in it. What I have noticed is that the front of the drum is sitting low and apparently rubbing against the bottom of the frame. There are also pieces of cork inside the cabinet. This would lead me to believe that the bearing glides are bad. I see that these are riveted in. Can this be the cause of the dirty clothes? How big a repair is this and what exactly does it entail? Will the felt seals have to be changed as well due to contamination? One expert I spoke with says that the streaks are from metal filings. I suspect that the clothes might be getting pinched between the drum and the frame. I'm already into this for $79.00 and would hate to throw good money after bad. I was thinking about a GE DPSE810EGWT as a replacement. It sells for $520.00 plus tax. Any comments or advice are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rich

MT BIG LOAD DRYER SLIDES

It sounds like the slides are indeed gone, the guides aren't too hard to replace, however if the front shroud is nearly worn through you may need to find a parts dryer to get another shroud. The dryer drum glide area at the front of the drum is also damaged but in most cases you can just turn the drum around so thier is a smooth painted area to ride on the new front glides. You should take the dryer apart to see what is worn it could need the felt seals you just have to take it apart and see. If you decide to get a new dryer I would look first at a 29" WP , KM or MT any of the models with the LF on the top, The new GE dryers are not real durable, the cheaper ones are made by Frigidare and these are the worst dryers made currently. The better GEs are a little better but still leave a lot to be desired, I never have liked any dryer where the heater is directly behind the drum so close to the clothes its just to dangerous or likely to damage clothing.
