Greetings ladies and fellas,

I'm visiting Dave (volvoguy87) and Wes (Elginkid) in Cincinnati for an interview. Wes is at work and Dave has left me to go to the wash-in in PA (Have fun!). So what do I do to occupy my time?

Visit my DE702 in the basement!

Last time I was here, I noted that the door switch didn't work. It would turn off the light, but not stop the drum. I figured it was a faulty switch and Dave ordered a new one for me. Today I installed it and the same problem occurred. The only thing I can figure is that when I replaced the dead timer last time, something wasn't hooked up right or it has to do with a difference between the two timers. The timer is off a 641c, but I hooked up everything the way it was on the de702 timer. There is an extra terminal set located on the left side of the timer, but I think that is for automatic dry (the de702 is timed dry only).

There are 3 wires that connect to the switch. Brown - which goes to the tub light (which does cut off), the Yellow with a black stripe on the top of the timer and the red one connected to the bottom right side of the picture. Do one of these need to move?

The tub is supposed to stop when I open the door, correct?

Side note, what do you recommend to replace the dead rubber door seal? I know there has been some debate in the past what was the best. What was the consensus?

Maytag HOH dryer door seal

I wonder who made the original gaskets for Maytag? If that company is still around, maybe they can still supply the gaskets(?)

If you can't find an NOS gasket on Ebay or from a parts supplier, maybe something like this can be substituted:

Similar gasket on Ebay

This may be from the lower line Highlander models, but here is an NOS gasket (312231) on Ebay that might work on your 702. Maybe someone else here would know for sure if this can work.

I think the gasket that you need is a 302448. Maybe Larry in Parma still has one.

Taken from an old thread:

Try Larry at Modern Parts in Parma, OH (216)661-6966.

For our future reference:
