Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Don't know about KY but TX -- this area of it, anyway -- is notorious for houses developing slab / leveling issues.  My parents have had theirs fixed (different areas of it) multiple times.  At least one of the sewer pipes in the slab broke, for a bar sink in the middle of the kitchen/family room area and whatever else connects through it.  The plumbing company had to tunnel under the house for access to fix it.

Their neighbor recently had some foundation repair (not plumbing) via twelve holes dug through the slab around the perimeter of her family room in middle of the house.

Congrats on your new LG! I shopped for a friend a few months back and she chose the 3500, as she saw no need for an internal water heater. At any rate, she loves hers. No problems with water hammering.  Wonder if LG tweaked that, because as Mike said, it was definitely an issue at one time.

Normal Cycle: The manual for the 3500 instructed the user to select an extra rinse if the dry load filled more than half the tub when using the Normal cycle.  Did yours suggest doing the same?

Lawrence, the RainyDay cycle said something about using it for washing clothes that were rained on. Whatever that is, they're clothes, they were wet, they're going to get wet in the machine LOL.

In order to see what any of these hidden cycles do to you have to be looking at the machines control pane to see what it selected. The app only lets you select them and doesn't show you what spin speed, soil level, water temp. it is using.

Some of them sound really hokey, some useful perhpas, like the single garment or half load.. You can probably replicate them right on the control panel.

What I think would be more useful would be to have maybe 3 memory presets that you could program right on the machine rather than having to look for something on a phone app. Or similarly 3 or 4 memory presets that your downloaded cycles could reside in permanently or until you erase them.

Rainy day cycle (LOL)

anyway - could it be that water hammer arrestors are now built into the LG's? I doubt it......but since these folks are not having issues with water hammer, it makes me wonder.

Re the Normal cycle: Mine says if the drum is filled more than half full (dry) then use the Heavy Duty cyce and add an extra rinse.

Kind of crazy I think to have a specific normal cycle and it's only for a half load. They should call it half load imho.

On the phone app when you download a hidden cycle it actually does show you what all the settings will be on the phone.. contrary to what I said above.

Honestly it's all too much really. I can't imagine most people even bothering with the app. Particularly people who aren't tech savvy, or older. It's sort of confusing even to me LOL.

The owners manual is dreadful. They spent more time and effort explaining the ThinQ app than they did actually operating the machine, or making it easier to understand. All day I was thinking,, why doesn't this thing have a spin only setting because it has a rinse and spin setting option button..It does but it's easily overlooked in the manual and I just happened to catch it on a video and it's so simple.. Turn the machine on,, select a spin speed and press start.. Instead they buried that piece of info in a paragraph about cancelling a load.

I also believe Whitest whites cycle recommends no more than 8 pounds.  Good grief.  I've seen it mentioned in manuals for various LG models.

I think the Whites Whites limitation was on the TLs due to the larger amount of water needed to be kept hot.

But load size limitations are kind of just there. Dosen't mean it will horribly fail because of them.
I think the idea is that they wanted the Normal cycle to be optimized towards typical test loads efficency and time wise and thus fully packed loads might interfere with that.
Further probably these limits are taken straight from the models with TurboWash where TurboWash comes pre-selected IIRC and that shouldn't be used with to large loads anyway.

Over here for example, the "Mixed" cycle is limited to a half load but handles full loads just fine as long as they aren't parziculary soiled.

Whitest Whites

This setting does state 15 lbs or 6.8 Kg. . Why not just say 7 Kg LOL.

I thought it was me going crazy looking for the cycle chart in the owner/op manual that came with the machine and not finding it because in the online version it's right there on page 24. For whatever reason it's omitted in the print versions.

Overnight wash; It says it uses the rolling motion to reduce noise, a warm wash, and a medium spin. At the end of the cycle it will occasionaly rotate the drum until the load is removed.
