December can be the month I'll long wish to forget. Cancer is back with a vengence, I was overdosed with chemo the week before Christmas and had terrible reactions, totaled the Town Car, had it out with siblings over my parent's care, got bitten by an old cat and got Cat Scratch Fever, tangled with my daughter in law over my decision to get rid of the cat and have not been well enough yet for another round of chemo. Beside twitching and falling from too much steriod and using Clairton-D for the joint pain from the platelet medication, I was my own walking meth lab.
You'll remember we've been building and rebuilding an abandoned house we bought last year. We learned there was no insulation behind the kitchen and have issues with the dishwasher freezing and cold air marching in under the cabinets. I cursed myself for doing such a thorough job of tiling the counters as I chisled them off one at a time to remove the cabinets underneath.

Changing Up

I added a few cabinets, a lazy susan, relocated the stove and dishwasher and will be getting solid surface counter tops. Patrick brought a reverse rack Maytag which I have been blessing as I run the loads of construction dusted dishes through.

Upper Crust

The upper cabinets need to be reolated yet and I am adding three more units so organization should be easier to accomplish. Not that I have many dishes.

Manic Organization

With the Lazy Susan and an additional 36 inch base cabinet getting everything in it's own pew should be easier.

No Garage for Me

Who would lust after appliances and then hide them in a garage? Lurking in the poantry and under the tables they'll soon be back on the counter where they belong.

Temporary Shelter

The plywood base went down and Shane hooked up the sink and plumbing so it's almost like being normal.

Tile?

The stove will be relocated once the electrician moves the plug. I need to tile behind the new cabinet and once the uppers are moved there is a range hood on the way.

Snow Palace

We have almost a foot and and a half of snow. It has been snowing since last Wednesday. I know I am old because I can't drive, I don't like being a passenger and I actually said, "Oh God, not more snow." Next thing you know I'll be saying the christmas Tree is too much work and start waking up before daylight. Aging ungracefully isn't fun.

We hadn't heard from you in awhile, figured you were busy. And then some! Hope you're feeling better soon. You are a brave man tackling a kitchen remodel and chemo at the same time.

Sorry to hear you joined this year's crap Christmas group, pretty much all but one or two in my large family said this Christmas ranged from "off" to downright crappy, have no idea why but it was the general consensus.

As for the kitchen, you've lived with and used it for a year so now you can tweak it a bit to make it more usable, nothing wrong with that.  Did the cabinets need to be pulled?  don't recall the construction of your place, but when I redid my last house, a very classic 50s, colonial, I found no insulation in the walls, opted to have it blown in, and just had minor patch work to repair the plaster.  It really made a big difference.

Hope your venting over the holidays helped you, it may not change things but just getting it out helps- as you know I speak from experience.  I have every hope that this will just be a bump in the road for you, and you'll be back as strong as ever.

Sorry to hear how bad your December was. Cat Scratch fever & Chemo? A pretty dangerous combination.

I think you are handling this better than most. I have to admire your fortitude.

I'm hoping that things will get better for you.... and soon!

Like the others I have been wondering about you.  Your are in my thoughts and prayers for your problems with the chemo and cat scratch fever.  The kitchen will look great for you.

Sending thoughts and hugs and prayers your way.

Get better soon.

Tender Mercies

Thank you for the warm responses. Its odd how I tend to retreat when under attack and the support and fun I needed was simply here waiting. Many of you have connected off site and its good to stay in touch. There are the elite, the efite, a few oneroius members but the bulk of us is simply that, ordinary, hard working, caring people with a generous heart.
Thank you

Oh, Kelly. I'd been wondering where you had gotten off to. I'm sorry to hear of the challenges, but (as is your wont) you're charging ahead! God bless you. Funny, I think of you every time I fire up a Mixmaster nowadays.

Let me second that wish to be closer by. A cup of coffee and hugs to you from the midwest!

Keith
