I mentioned the book Interior Desecrations in Pete's "Fondue Memories" thread.

Oddly enough, I had a copy of it right on my desk. Thought I'd throw up (apt) a few examples.

The first example: Quick--find the couch.

Oh.My.God.

Something I would only confess in the confines of this thread: I had lime green shag carpet in my bedroom when I was a kid. LIME GREEN. I should have had my mother arrested.

When I was in 10th grade (1975), I paid for new carpeting with my own money. It was freaking RUST ORANGE. Like I thought this was a big improvement or something, LOL!

I've mentioned before that the house my parents built in 1964 had orange Formica in the kitchen, with a turquoise Martha Washington wall oven, cooktop, and range hood. Also a turquoise porcelain sink. Carpeting was added in the early 1970s, orange shag in the living room and hallway, gold shag in the bedrooms. One of the bathrooms had a lilac sink, toilet, and tub.

Where is my barf bag?

What were people thinking....

I'd say they were thinking the further removed something is from something natural (or graceful or aesthetic, or classically proportioned) the more "modern" it is.

Long live polymers in colors that don't exist in nature!

One of the houses I recently looked at...

built in 1976, 2 storey 4bdrm 2.5 bath affair still had dark avocado green carpeting in the bedrooms, and vintage-fake brick looking tile in the family room.
In the basement of that house was more brick tile, and a Frigidaire 1-18 washer and dryer which were included with the house.
They were the most appealing part of the house!

This ones for Frigilux! You simply have to know how to use the restrained influence of lime green with the surounding elements of the decor. :)

I like the chairs and everything else except the green. Paint the walls a light sand color to offset the loud couch and replace the carpet and, WaLAA.

You have to love the energy and inspiration of the 60s and 70s. You couldn't find this today if you paid a decorator. Remember these people were coming from the dank 50s and OMG 40s and relatives that were still alive from the Victorian era(barf out). Who WOULDN'T want this kind of vibrancy in an era without microwaves, the internet, and amongst still segregated schools in some areas of the country. today, skanky nazi republicans love to attack this kind of progressive stuff because of it's motivational energies.

Thanks for the pics.

THATS THE CARPET!!!!

The house I mentioned previously, has that same green carpeting! You can have the 1-18 set, AND 4 bedrooms of that carpeting , all for a measly $390,000!

I actually like the green zebra room!

When I was a kid we had dark, dark wood paneling and olive green indoor-outdoor carpet. In the '90s (the true decorating abyss), the carpet was replaced, the paneling painted over, and the living room filled with the most uncomfortable foam-and-plywood furniture in existence. Mom finally broke down and got new living room set; it's the color of cat vomit, so when the inevitable happens it'll blend right in.

Good try, drmitch, but my lime green shag made the above carpeting look sophisticated, LOL! My carpet was the color of a neon lime popsicle. I'll try to find a picture, scan it and post it. It was truly hideous, by any standard.
