Deep-Freeze

If all goes according to plan, this Deep-Freeze freezer will be coming home with me tomorrow. I saw a thread not that long ago with advertising for the double cylinder model but was looking for more info. I was curious if anyone in the club had either model. Is there any way to ID the year?

I have only seen them with the little box for the compressor beside them or between, in the case of the double barrel models.

Wow Very Cool Cory, I would love to see that in person, Good Luck with getting it.

I always love seeing the first of anything, it is cool to see the way the engineers designed things before the cost-control folks get involved.

Hmmmmm...to think every freezer I hear about is called a Deep Freeze when there could only be THIS ONE!!!!

In a magazine file somewhere around here I have an ad for these - possibly pre-WWII.

 

My grandmother had a squared cabinet burial-vault-sized Deep Freeze brand freezer as long as I can remember.

I think my aunt and uncle had one of those huge Deep Freeze freezers as well. They belonged to one of those freezer clubs where you bought frozen foods and meats in big quantities and had it delivered.

Well, she made it home in one piece- too dark to snap any pics but we'll see this weekend. I know it was cooling when I bought it, I just hope the ride home didn't disturb the sealed system.

One thing I noticed is that the evaporator is just a short length of steel line that runs back and forth in the "vent opening" area at the bottom. It's secured to the steel "slats" like a heatsink. Pretty cool.

For scale, it comes up to me at mid-chest height so for someone short, they'd have quite a reach trying to get the ground beef out of the bottom!

And after a good scrubbing, she doesn't look too bad. I think I like the original patina better than a new paint job.

The design alone is alluring - I think at my height, 5' 7" , I might have trouble reaching down to the bottom???
