Hi everyone. I found this lovely old dishwasher at a second hand shop after my "new" not even 10 year old whirlpool died.and to replace the motherboard is to costly and weeks of waiting. I decided no more modern dishwashers for me, just good old ones made to last..
Does Anyone know more about this machine? I know it must be from the 80's and some parts inside is marked 'Smeg'. Its not in great condition but i love it anyway and it does a good job of cleaning. I'm from South Africa. And Defy is one of our known brands. Thanks.

SMEG, you say ...

Hi Jacob,
SMEG made the Dishlex brand for Australia from about early 70's to about late 80's, after which Dishlex manufactured here. The front panel on yours looks to have all the buttons, dials and lights in the same relative positions as our Dishlex examples of that era. So perhaps it is a SMEG deep down, rebadged for Defy. I would suspect the ID plate outlining country of origin would say Italy, if we're on the right track. The motor used to start at the beginning of the cycle and had a lovely deep thrum when it started. You'd then gradually hear the water start to slosh around as it filled, with the motor sound becoming virtually silent once the correct amount of water was onboard and flowing around.
Enjoy your vintage machine!
Cheers,
Nick

These were badged as Servis among others and as stated its going to be Italian but they were pretty good machines and if memory serves about an hour and half and all done..

Hi guys. Thanks for the replies, it made me so happy to hear your comments.
Im doing a load as im typing, almost done, wash time on 65 degree Celsius and program 4 which is either normal to light wash takes about an hour and 10min.
This one fills with water first then starts to wash.
I have not used the full program from 2(super wash) wich im sure is heavy/pots, up to final rinse and dry program 6. But i get clean dishes.
It does say 'made in Italy' so im glad because i always trusted the good old Indesit dishwashers because my mom and most of my family had one of those huge ones with the folding door and 3 racks whrn i was growing up.

I wil post more photos.
