Mado, our grandmother on mom's side, drank Metrical and ate Ayds candies. She was always real skinny.Ayds was taken off the market when A.I.D.S. was discovered due to stupid idiots who got their panties all tangled up.
I remember the Metrical & Sego craze of the early 60s. One lady could not understand why she was not losing weight while drinking it. A coworker discovered that she was drinking it along with her lunch like a shake. And we wonder how the nation could become so effed up.
I tried to watch an episode this AM hoping for a glimpse of the appliances. I wondered if they locked Jay North's nuts in some sort of torture device to raise his voice to that irritaing screech.
Back in the 60's, it was somewhat unusual for a man to be displayed in an ad for a diet aid, but I guess an occasional exception could me made once in a while.
I remember seeing this ad in a copy of Life magazine. Although it's kind of hard to see, I used to spend quite a bit of time looking at it...I wonder why?

As someone living with HIV/AIDS, I find your comment about "stupid idiots who got their panties in a bunch" offensive, I guess you never knew someone who has/had the virus. Get your facts straight, AYDS was not taken off the market, the MANUFACTURER decided to change the name to "DIET AYDS" in light of the AIDS crisis. They were discontinued in 1988 due to lack of sales caused by the introduction of other diet products such as Slim Fast.
